I doubt much will change, just like the passing of the torch from Fidel to his brother.

Those who have power have a vested interest in retaining power.

Hope I'm wrong, though. I know S. Korea is just itching to reconcile. Think of all that cheap labor that will suddenly become available to build Hyundais, Kias, and Samsungs. Plus, the cheap labor will speak the same language.

On second thought, S. Korea is already kicking our ass economically, maybe it's better they stay apart from the north.

"Communism" refers to the state's role in the economy. It has nothing to do with how the government itself is selected or run. You can have a Communist Dictatorship or you could have a Communist Republic, where the government is elected.

WTF!!!

Communism, like Socialism and Capitalism refers to the government's role in the economy.
Capitalism, in its pure form, means that the government isn't involved in any way with regulating the economy. In practice there are often some regulations in place. Technically, since the people are the government, everyone owns everything collectively. Thus the name.

The next step along the scale is Socialism, which means that the government controls production and distribution of goods. There is still some freedom in that services are still private, people are still considered to work for themselves, and (regulated) private businesses can still exist. At this level people still receive greater pay for better or more important work.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is Communism, which means that the government fully controls the economy, any so-called "companies" are state-owned, and everyone works for the state (in its pure form). Additionally, in priciple if not in practice, everyone gets what they need and each provides what he's capable of.

These are not to be confused with how governments are run or selected, which is also not as cut-and-dry as the above. Those I list here:
Democracy (Pure)- Everyone votes for the laws. Basically mob rule.
Republic (also now known as a Representative Democracy) - The people vote for representatives who, in turn, vote for the laws.
Dictatorship - A dictator dictates the laws.
Oligarchy - An "elite class" (be it a family, the rich, a party, a military, corporations, etc.) control how government is run and set the laws.
Monarchy - The head of state is a lifetime role and the next ruler is typically chosen along family lines.
Theocracy - A specific religion runs the government.
Autocracy - See "Dictatorship"
Anarchy - Everyone for themselves.

Then you have your modifiers:
Constitutional - How the government is to run is laid out in a document (a "Constitution").
Totalitarian - When the state controls every aspect of the people's lives.

Obviously some of the various forms can be mixed and matched and, in real life, are combined in most cases. You can have a Constitutional Socialist Oligarchy (such as the USSR), for example. You can't have a Totalitarian Anarchy, however, as the two are mutually exclusive (one requires a government to exist, and the other doesn't have a government).

When people vote in a Republic for representatives who promise to take over or regulate a private business, you have an example of a Socialist or Communist Republic in action. Or if you have a hippy commune where everyone votes and there's no private property, that's an example of a Communist Democracy.

And, of course, the forms are constantly changing in any given country. Sometimes Capitalist systems move toward the Communist end of the spectrum, and sometimes it's the reverse. This goes for the structure of governments as well.

People who don't understand these fine distinctions have no business in any political or governmental thread.

True motorcycle clubs are microcosms of a communist republic or communist democracy. They vote for their officers, or vote directly on matters, but the money earned or goods produced are owned by the club collectively.

Of course, being a club, the members are also members of the host nation, so they are also subject to it.

Once again, spouting off about things you have no true experience with. Like a guy who's never traveled trying to tell me what people in other countries are like.

But it's fascinating that instead of posting up a coherent, logical rebuttal to attempt to prove me "rong" [sic], you instead simply go for an attack. A poor one, at that.
