Shunning Facebook, and Living to Tell About It - Yahoo! Finance (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/shunning-facebook-living-tell-000204976.html)

OMG, 1/3rd of the US population isn't on Facebook! :slap:

I'm not, and never will be. Companies have enough chances in a day to sell me shit I don't want or need and if I want people to know what I had for dinner/where I'm going today/what color my morning turd was, I'll post it here.

As a Facebook user I thank all of the above hold outs for not f*cking up even more of the Internet.

I do have a facebook account, and use it mostly to keep in touch with my kids, and family that live in the States.

It is not in my name...

But!

BoracayJohnny found me anyway some how :confused5:

Dude, you know anything is possible in the PI. Besides, I was supporting the local economy when I put a couple of computer folks to work. I paid big too, five dollars a day. It only took one day too. :seasix:

If I'm not interested in sharing the details of my life by phone or email with people I've known for years, I'm even less interested in sharing said details with large numbers of people with whom I have even less connection.

I was on it for about a year or so. Then one day it dawned on me that I could give a shit less about what anyone else was doing. I waste enough time on the computer anyway and FB was by far the worst. It sort of took on a life of its own. I originally got on it to keep in contact with family. That didn't last long at all. People came out of the woodwork.:leaving:

I don't Facebook, Twitter,... nothing like that. Never have; have no desire to.

No one...

wants to hear about my boring day-to-day life.

I do use Twitter, mostly reading, rather than posting. Nobody follows me anyway. I've come to appreciate the instantaneous speed at which motorsport news in particular is available to me, especially now in the off-season...

Why do people think that FB is only about posting what you are currently doing?

You do know you don't have to post everything or anything you do, right? Facebook is only what you make of it. Many people use it no different than we use this forum. :shots:

Facebook is only what you make of it.

And that is nothing. What bugs me is the constant "How can you not be on Facebook? Everyone is on Facebook!" Then they look at you like you've got your wang out at a kindergarten.

Tell them how wrong they are because you are not on FB. Do it in a Sheldon Cooper voice.

If I didn't have FB, I would have missed this from a buddy:

I love christmas lights! They remind me of my co-workers. They all hang together, half the phockers don't work, and the others aren't too phockin bright.

Tell them it's a free country and you are free to make your own choices. I use Facebook but if you don't want to or don't like it then I have no problem with you not using it. :cert:

This.

I'm no Facebook slurper - but I see it about the same as I see here: entertainment value. Also, if you are self employed, it's simply a networking and promotional tool.

We actually have a Facebook strategy - using it to reach our core audience of teachers.

Say the old men. Women in their mid-20's are bad at making moves, so they do it on facebook. Just sayin.

You all are aware that you don't have to use literally every feature it offers, right?

It is possible to use it simply to keep in touch with friends and family, share photos, and schedule events. You don't have to update people on trivial BS, and you can block their updates of trivial BS.

EXACTLY.

I have no need to broadcast my goings on... and don't need to read minute-by-minute accounts of others lives.

I'm not saying it is wrong for others; it's just not for me.

Hell, most locals here don't even have a birth certificate. These cats are still using paper and pen/pencil to record just about everything. There are computers but they'll complete the recording while standing/sitting by the computer. And that's if they have a computer.

I"m on facebook to keep in touch with my kids, and a few old friends.....

but mostly it's email and phone calls....

got into a group that talks about the old daze were I grew up, and most of them are much younger, it was interesting for a while, but to hear the liberal opinions I was amused to say the least, so I dropped off the association, cancelled the emails over the threads....
