been working on this for the last few days, should wrap up tomorrow:

first, mark out on wood the shape you want:

http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad214/brinkmancorvette/IMG_0810.jpg

cut out roughly on bandsaw:

http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad214/brinkmancorvette/IMG_0811.jpg

sand off bandsaw marks, and sand curves nice and smooth:

http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad214/brinkmancorvette/IMG_0812.jpg

now, split in twain on bandsaw, yielding a book matched pair:

http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad214/brinkmancorvette/IMG_0813.jpg

http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad214/brinkmancorvette/IMG_0814.jpg

more sanding and shaping follow, up thru 220 grit, on belt sander, spindle sander, and by hand:

http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad214/brinkmancorvette/IMG_0815.jpg

oh yeah, time for a matching container, gluing up now:

http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad214/brinkmancorvette/IMG_0820.jpg

need to sand container tomorrow, and then apply finish to all as well.

hmmm....i saw someone has a new AK-47 with some ratty stocks....

walnut is a traditional stock for guns, as is maple to a lesser extent (think Kentucky long rifles), and various exotic woods for handgun grips (handles).

i messed with a set of grips for my 1911 a few weeks ago, didn't like how they turned out, so they got set aside..

that would be a good challenge.

oh...that's 3 words....

thanks all.

rather cold to be playing in the shop, could only take 30 min yesterday, warmer today (40F), got done what i wanted to get done.

this will put a few $$ in the 'bigger and better tool fund'.

had to bring the glue up to the house, warmer here.

You definitely have the spoon market cornered. :cert:

that's me...the spoon mogul.....:dance::dance:

here's the rest of the story:

i never set out to make spoons as something to compliment other things i've made for Mrs. DAB's kitchen, and then one day, she showed me this wood spoon she had bought some time ago, made of olive wood, and it had a knot that was coming loose in the spoon end.

well, i thought, how hard could it be to duplicate that? took it to my shop, traced its outline on a scrap of walnut, and went to work on my bandsaw. little bit later, i had a fair copy made, for a lot less than they were asking at the store.

made her a set from walnut, and then another set for someone else....and you get the idea 'hey...could you make me a set?'

sure, how many you need and what wood do you like? :DAB:

if you're serious, PM me, and we can discuss details. fair warning, it's getting cold in the shop, and i can only take that cold for so long in a day.....may affect completion estimates.

Boy? Only when the water's cold!

I'd have some just for me though, and in absolutely no rush whatsoever. I don't even have a decent kitchen to work in right now. When you have time and the weather's nicer is fine! No hurry at all!

And yes, I'd like a nice set of wooden spoons, different sizes and shapes, the ones at the store are lame! Wouldn't mind having a little curve to the handle since my wrist is so weak, and a honey spoon! :D

We'll talk!

as you can see, these are basically straight. i tried making ones with a curve....that's a little harder and wastes quite a bit of wood.

let me know when you are ready to talk.

Mine is one of the smaller heaters, they do make bigger ones. You point it in your general direction and it takes the chill out so you can get something done.

sent off today.

lesson learned: had packed this in an old wine box...clerk said you can't use old wine boxes to ship stuff, doesn't matter what it is. he was kind enough to search the backroom and found a box i could repack it in. who knew. :confused5:

gun stocks....that'd be a good challenge.

my dad has an old .22 rifle that i learned to shoot when i was a kid, and he long ago cut the stock down so i could reach the trigger.....that would be a good piece to fix/repair someday.

Check here for a stock Numrich Gun Parts Corporation (http://www.gunpartscorp.com/)

While I agree you do great work, sometimes it's easier to purchase the correct piece :D

thanks.

i don't even recall mfr or model of the rifle. and it would probably be easiest just to add an extension to the stock and blend it in. rifle is likely not worth more than 150.
