A guy I share an office with is retired Navy. Flew Phantoms. He is also the most politically conservative guy I think I have ever met.
I had some Dylan playing this afternoon and he couldn't WAIT to tell me how much he HATED him. "Liberal asshole" I think it was.
This got my wheels spinning a little. Do you think ultra conservative types are less interested in the arts?
I am definitely a right side of the brain person. I also tend to be a little more liberal minded than a lot of folks here. Do you think those two traits are somewhat synonymous?

Liberals "get" art and such.
Conservatives look at an abstract painting and say, "WTF is that".
And to your question Thomas I answer with, "WTF is that". :D

Musicians in general are usually liberal and "artsy".
Add in the fact that folk music tends to have a political slant and they can turn a lot of people off. Some musicians, like Neil Young, create a love/hate relationship for me. Some days I love his music, other days I want to kick him in the nuts.

I am both a left- and right-brained person. I excel in both left-brained and right-brained areas.
That said, when I discover that an artist has liberal views, it lessens my interest in their art... especially if I believe that they are using their popularity to further their leftist causes. Conversely, I also tend to increase my appreciation of artists who I later learn have right-leaning political tendencies.
Go figure.
You pinko-Commie.
You don't have to subscribe to the artist's personal views to enjoy his or her art.
For example, I enjoy the music of the Indigo Girls, yet I have no interest in lesbians.....well, unless they are hot and soaping each other up in the showe.....but, I've said too much already. Um, nevermind.

Bullshit, name a 'right' wing artist type.....leave Hollywood out of it please....
as they are not 'artists' but try hard to portray what someone else creates for them to do.....

I think ultra-conservatives are incapable of rational, or even, adult, thought. BTW, I know a number of Phantom jocks...not all are intellectually challenged. I flew with some and one of the better astronauts, a Phantom jock with more than 200 combat missions and a good bud in grad school, is a PhD from MIT and one of the brighter guys I know.
I just finished listening to ultra-conservative, family values, super-christian (note use of lower case "c" in christian) Ralph "Holier than Anyone" Reed stress his support for Neutered Gingrich over Mitt Romney...this suggests to me that super-conservatives hate, in descending order of affect, Ni**ers, Jews, Mormons, Catholics, non-Evangelist protesters, er, protestants, almost anyone who does not claim Jesus (as opposed to that spick, Haysoos) as their personal savior and redeemer and bestest buddy, and any other Baptist white guy. I look forward to hate shit from cretinous right-wing ultra-conservative pubs here.

I am pretty conservative when it comes to government involvement in my life. I am also a lover of all things art. Creativity feeds the soul. One of my greatest passions is folk art. I used to run my ex-MIL's art galleries when she lived here in GA. She had a large selection of southern fine and folk art. What an inspiration it was to go to work each day. I also grew up in the biggest Baptist church in town. lol. I am a walking contradiction. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!:D

I'm a conservative and raised in a Baptist church. The preachers growing up had me believing I was going to hell and I wasn't even old enough to have done the things they preached about :D Most had a bible in their hand and gin on their breath anyway. But...I do enjoy seeing a nice oil painting, photography, pottery, baskets, quilts, etc...anything made by one person from their own hands vs. machine made. I'm not into the abstract stuff.
Dylan reminds me of the scene in Animal House of the guy playing guitar on the staircase. John Belushi grabs it out of his hand and smashes it against the wall and they launch into some good R&R.

Conservative and raised in a Baptist church.
When I was young, I hated to go to church because the old man up on the stage would yell and scream at a room full of people. He screamed that "Unless I was washed in the blood of a lamb, I was going to die and burn in hell forever."
The type of art I like is handmade stuff, and one ofs.

Ultra-conservatives and ultra-liberals, aka extremists, generally don't listen to opposing viewpoints. Therefore, they are not informed enough to make rational opinions. Ignore them except to keep them out of office.

I generally find Dylan to be so insignificant to my life that I can effectively discount his entire body of work like this:
*burp*
Anyway, I find that artsy right-brain types tend to think communists are just fine, vote for idiots because they are promised circuses and bread, and generally have a higher feather-to-brain ratio than the left-brain types. They have their uses though.
1. They give us kids to beat up in school.
2. They help San Francisco be the vibrant, diverse metropolis that it is.
3. They give us easy to utilize fodder for the upcoming zombie apocalypse. Just grab one and toss him to the ground as you escape the zombie hoard.
4. They made OWS the most awesome protest evar!
Some people may think that even though I'm totally non-religious and have spent way to much time in "Intelligent Design" threads trying to drum into empty skulls some basic science concepts to refute their attempts at foisting pseudo-science malarkey on unsuspecting school children, that I'm "ultra-conservative" because I really despise Marxists, capital S socialism, and people who vote for Marxists and capital S socialism.
Hope that helps.

I was going for the "Dude, I'm gettin' a Dell" ad campaign funny. OK, I agree that was just plain overreaching.
