This is Smoky. He's a former feral, 8 weeks old, now a sweet boy. The first day I got him he bit my finger to the bone and made a bloody mess of my other hand. That was 10 days ago, and the wounds are just now healing. He weighs about 1.5 pounds, has his shots, was de-wormed. He's just now losing his dead-rat breath.

This is Smoky's brother, not yet named. He's still very much afraid of people, but he hasn't tried to bite or scratch me. I think he'll be easy to tame. I just caught him yesterday. I try to tame them by picking them up with a towel, then stuffing them inside my zipped-up jacket. Occasionally, I'll reach in and pet them, but it's mainly to acquaint them with me and to let them know they're safe.

Smoky and his brother have met each other, and Smoky began licking his bro's head. I don't anticipate any problem between them. I let them sleep in two separate rooms at the workshop for now just to be on the safe side. In a week they can stay together (after playing together inside). I always try to keep my kitties as safe as possible.

Quite a collection you are putting together. Based on some of your comments I hope you are keeping current on your own inoculations. Ferals can carry a lot of different bugs. Not sure what they have as far as a preventative for rabies. I had to go through the whole shot regimin after trying to help a stray who bit me and got away

Good on you though for helping God's creatures

This makes 11. One inside at night, the others outside. They all sleep in the work shop at night, which is heated. All of them are well-fed, healthy, and happy. Some are very smart, others are... just sweet. There's the occasionaly pecking-order fight, but nothing serious, no lost eyes or broken bones, anyway. Unless it's feeding time, you hardly know they're here.

I'm up to date on everything one can be vaccinated for, including tetanus. Nope, still no vaccine for rabies that I know of. You know, I've never caught anything from a feral cat, even cat-scratch fever, but I know it's possible. Thank you for the kind words. :cert:

We have two "pure breads" with papers and three that are PetSmart stray rescues. The difference between the pures and the rescues is amazing. We love all five but the rescues love us back so much more. Its like they all know they won the kittah lottery.

I'm convinced that the rescues know how lucky they are. I have one pure bred, a Bengal, who just tolerates people. The rescues, however, "kiss" me ( touch noses) and just love to be around me and to be petted. they're the best! :seasix:

Yep! And a happy one at that! You cannot imagine the pleasure I get from petting a kitty and having it stare deep into my eyes with its love. It's totally unconditional.

This is true. Unconditional love is amazing. They will look at you and you know that they are thinking nothing else

You should let me name him. I would name him Bandit.

When Becka picked up two kittens at PetSmart (they were so obviously attached to each other) there was a woman that wanted only the one. She wanted to call it Bandit. Becka told the folks she wanted both kittens so they would not be seperated. Sashi and Coco are now our senior cats.:seasix:

I got KitKat out of the garbage cart about 5 years and TurboKittyLucy was in the front yard screaming 2 years ago. I didn't know a 1 lb kitten could be that loud. We got Fletcher the dog last July from the humane society. He is a tornado survivor.

I know exactly what you mean. Reading this thread is a reminder of what a great group the Vettebarn is.
