View Full Version : My 100% rating on eBay just tanked

I sold my old 1998 Jaguar with 152K miles on eBay for about $7300 (NADA retail was about $9500). Now the buyer has left negative feedback, claiming the car wasn't as represented, that he already has $6300 in repairs. WTF? The only thing the car needed was front struts, which I told him. I bought the car new, paint and interior were excellent, no engine or transmission issues, tires were almost new Michelins. Nothing was misrepresented.

How in hell do you get $6300 in repairs? Struts would be about $1200-1500, which is why I took about $2000 off retail. I'm not going to dispute his feedback; I don't buy or sell enough on eBay for it to matter. It just pisses me off. Just a sorehead I guess. End of rant.

Buyer remorse dude. Ebay is off my list of selling or buying anything due to the shit I've had to deal with.

Here's everything he said: "Smooth transaction. Car not as represented. $6300 in repairs."

I agree that some (most?) will. Here's my "tag line" for all car parts that I sell: "If you don't like the part, return it for a full refund. My reputation is more important than any car part." I did not put that in the car ad, because it would be stupid to offer a money-back guarantee on a used car with 152K miles on it.

Not sure I would have sold a car on the internet just for that reason, nor would I buy a vehicle on the net. But that's besides the point, sounds like you were 100% honest in the description.

Guy was obviously an idiot. Who would pay $7k for a Jag with 150k on it?

That car was on a string and a prayer 50k miles ago.

:)

Track the guy down, beat him senseless, pour gas on the car and light it on fire then tell him he's too stupid to own a car.

Then go home and post negative feedback.

Show him your The Handle :thehandle:

Ebay changed the review process, sellers can't leave negative feedback.

I got negative feedback on an auction once...

The auction description was something like...

"CHRISTIAN HOSOI COMMEMORATIVE RE-ISSUE SKATEBOARD DECK

Skull Skates released these commemorative decks with Hosoi's iconic 80's "rising sun" graphic to celebrate Christian's release from prison."

Guy buys the deck for $150 and leaves me this feedback:

"Seller is a liar, this is not an original Hosoi deck, it is a replica."

Back then you could respond to feedback, so I responded:

"Buyer apparently cannot read."

I got several comments about "Hosoi Guy" from other buyers for months...

No, seller (me) is. If the buyer had been a lawyer, and if he had a legitimate gripe, he would've done something about it, instead of leaving some puzzy comment on eBay.

Ran into an issue with a buyer.

I put in a dispute.

Ebay could never get the guy to respond.

They dropped the negative feedback.

If you can sell a 12 yr old, 150K mile Jaguar for $7300, I've got a job waiting for you up here. :D

Believe it or no, NADA on that car was around $9500 (with an $150 add-on for low mileage). Like I said, I bought it new, it was pampered, oil changed every 3K miles, nothing wrong with the car other than needing new struts. No parking lot dings, no worn upholstery, no body damage, no rust. It was a very dependable car for me.

But, I agree, in a way. Would I have paid $7300 for such a car? Probably not, because you never know what may happen tomorrow with the car. Anyway, it was represented correctly, and I don't feel like I took advantage of anyone.

You buy a used car and you takes your chances. Especially a used British car. No offense. They are good looking cars and probably good performing for the most part.

Oh, you gotta explain to me WTF all this is!

Hawaiian Christian Hosoi was one of the top vertical skateboarders in the 80's, easily the match of Tony Hawk. As vert declined in the 90's Hosoi became addicted to meth, which is what he was caught trying to smuggle from LA to Honolulu. He was given 10 years in federal prison, did 4, got clean and found God.

While he was in prison the skate industry helped him out and when he was released, several of the companies he once skated for, SIMS, Santa Cruz, Skull Skates, and a few he didn't, re-released his old skateboard decks, and some new designs, as a way of providing him income upon release.
