View Full Version : A bench at the NCM for Steve

snide
12-02-2011, 9:25pm
The Steve Eddleman bench fund has been set up at the NCM. The cost of the bench is $5000. Once the bench has been fully funded and artwork approved, they will go ahead and commission the bench. It takes approximately 6 weeks to complete once the order is placed.

To contribute, you may contact the museum directly. Please be sure any payments are made out to either 'National Corvette Museum' or 'NCM' with 'Steve Eddleman fund' in the memo portion. They can also do phone processing with credit card payments. These bench contributions are donations to the NCM and tax deductible as allowable by law.

Contributions can be made by the following processes:
· phoning Megan Meredith directly at 270-467-8836 or the NCM main line 800-538-3883
· mail contribution to National Corvette Museum Attn: Bench Program – 350 Corvette Dr., Bowling Green, KY 42101
· online granite bench purchase (will not be charged full amount of $5,000), enter contribution amount for processing and Steve Eddleman fund in the special instructions box on the shipping summary page
· link to order online or form to print off and mail in - http://www.corvettemuseum.com/brick/index.shtml

It would be ideal if the bench is completed well in advance of Barn Raising II, so that we can all make arrangements to be there for the unveiling.

Details where to send real $$$ (and possibly some BBs)?

From what I recall with previous benches, once a bench has been ordered, you call up the NCM (800-53-VETTE) and ask to make a donation to the bench fund. Once they have collected the requisite funds, the bench is commissioned.

NCM benches are $5000, and I have little doubt this forum can raise that. I'm definitely in.

Given that BR2 is ~6 months away, I'm sure the bench could be done in time and unveiled during the event, and hopefully Steve's family will be able and inspired to attend too. Just as much we hope Kathy Maguire can return too. :yesnod:

My condolences to Steve's family.

Knowing the generosity of the people on this forum I have no doubt a bench can be done for Steve and my family will gladly contribute what we can to make it happen. The bench for Bill is awesome!!! Jim did a wonderful job designing it. I will most definitely be at BRII and for the unveiling of a bench for Steve and to visit Bill's bench once again.

Much love to everyone! Hug your loved ones tight.....you never know when your time or theirs will come.....

Looks like we have quite a few donors, we need to capture that while they are still feeling it!

Who's got an acct we could donate to, both now and continuing until we get the funds needed?
Didn't Dixie do the last one? Would he be willing to strap on again and take the lead on this? Or snide?

If all else fails, I'll take the lead and gather all the donations in my paypal acct (and take other payments), and turn all over to the one arranging for the bench when enough is collected.

It seems we are a ways off from reaching $5000. I had an idea: Since we're close to $2500, how would folks feel about a large brick (measures 24" X 24") for the walkway area as opposed to a bench?

We're nearly at that amount, it's doable by Barn Raising and I think it would still be a great gesture.

Opinions?

No offense intended to Pervey because we all loved him...but to be real honest about it, we can't get a bench everytime someone dies. Bill's circumstances were a bit different, and collections were taken from CF, which has a much larger group to collect from. If you want to draw this out for another year, we may get there. If not, a large brick is the best we're gonna do at this point.

It seems current benches end up around the outside...

Bricks by the entrance, a fair number of which are memorial bricks...

But those are spreading around the outside too...

In my opinion, a brick would fit in better. They're already running out of space for benches, and the number of those they have now looks cluttered already. Bricks look better the way they have them now (although they are running out of prime spaces, there's lots of new sidewalk and new brick spaces resulting from the recent expansion).

I think the big brick would be fine.

Well Mike, money talks, and quite loudly sometimes. When I was at the museum yesterday, I did notice that the area where IrishMac's bench is located is littered with benches. Looks like there is space for 2 or 3 more benches.

If all we can raise is funds for a large brick, then let's proceed with that. There is a lot of "virgin" walkway where the brick can be place so it doesn't get lost.
