The FedEx guy brought me a present today.
I have a pretty decent diecast collection and today added a new favorite. 1st run, limited edition of 5,000, 2011 Indy 500 Winner...

Greenlight did an awesome job on this one. The dayglow orange is the best I have seen. Pictures don't even come close to doing it justice. I actually bought it the same day Dan died as a pre-order from the IMS store so I got it at a great price (before they went through the roof). Unlike many folks, I don't give a crap about the value. I have them for myself and actually display them.
Another Indy car that I have out right now... autographed by Danica on the left side pod. :D

You suck!
I didn't know those were on sale until it was too late. I need to pick one of those up for the track car.

 I just happened to be cruising facebook when IMS posted it. I assumed they would make enough to last a few months. I'm sure you could bring the image to a sticker printer and get one made.
edit: scratch that. looks like IMS had more printed. link (http://secure.brickyard.com/Retail/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductBaseId=216eee67-3c27-43d8-bb03-871cedb10d57)
That's where they're going (that and the back of the pickup).
I'm still upset about it. I really liked Dan Wheldon.

I am too. He seemed to be a genuinely good guy. I still have the race saved on my DVR from the live broadcast and don't have the heart to delete it.
Even my iRacing car has that "sticker" on it. Which considering the base paint scheme might be a bit ironic...

Yeah, he did.
Can't wait to see how the new car has been adjusted to prevent it from happening again.
You're welcome.

I believe that I have a die-cast of the car he drove when he won in 2005.

Compared to my other Greenlight cars (like the Danica car) it has a few little extras on it that really set it apart. The IMS logo "Indy 500" marked tires are really cool as are the lugnuts being a separate piece vice molded into the wheels as on the others I have. Under the cowl, the suspension/engine is a little more detailed as is the driver.
This is the only 2011 car I have so I don't know if they have made those changes across the board or if the "Limited Edition" first run might be more than just a number on the bottom, although given that the Danica car is also marked XXX of 6,000 and doesn't have quite the detail, I'm guessing they made the changes for all of them 2011.

I am REALLY interested to see this new car at work...
It looks kinda goofy, but if it prevents something like this from happening again, who really cares what it looks like.

The lugnuts are a separate piece? Damn! That is detailed. Even more than I imagined.

I was expecting it to look something like this, so anything is an improvement. It's a real shame that Wheldon died in the old car while he was developing the safer new car.

My Dario car appears to have the same changes. So does my Hunter-reay car but that could have been an early 2011 sale. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding. Though, when I bought it at a stand at the Homestead race, there was very little selection and the guy said no one was making IRL models anymore. I figured he was FOS and did some research. Turns out he wasn't lying. So I have no idea whats going on with these models.
Do you have a link to where you bought the Wheldon car? I might pick one up.

I thought that might be the case in that the changes were to all of the cars. The Danica car I was comparing it to was a 2008... I think... so they could have been updated anywhere after that.
I got the Wheldon car from IMS but I don't see it on their site anymore.
I think it is the same Greenlight car that you can get from any of the online dealers, except it has the IMS stickers and nomenclature on the box. Although, I wouldn't doubt that all of them have that as well.

Just did some looking and found this...
GreenLight Collectibles releases the die cast replica of the Indy 500 Winner Car
Indianapolis, IN (November 23, 2011) Immediately after Dan Wheldon #98 won the 100th Anniversary Indianapolis 500 in May 2011, GreenLight Collectibles planned the production of his IndyCar for 1:18th and 1:64th scale die cast replication.
As an officially licensed die cast manufacturer of the IZOD IndyCar Series; GreenLight Collectibles was thrilled to include Wheldon’s winner car into their renewed IndyCar license agreement. “The Winner car is the fleet favorite and rightfully so”, said National Sales Manager, Jeff Nelson, “for all IndyCar die cast collectors, no collection would be complete without this singular piece of victory.”
Dan Wheldon’s #98 winning Car is now available for worldwide distribution. GreenLight is sold out of this release and all stock will be available through the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, trackside vendors and hobby shops across the globe. For a list of retailers, wholesalers and distributors near you please direct your inquires to the GreenLight Collectibles “Where To By” tab on their website.

The ones I have clicked so far all seem to be sold out of it. There are a few on ebay but they are going for well over $125. I only paid $49.99! :willy:

Hopefully they keep it classy and don't charge some crazy price for them...
