View Full Version : Anyone else hate the night life?

I'm 32 but feel like I'm 62 at times. I've never enjoyed going out to a bar that is full of smoke and douchebags. Tonight a buddy wanted to go grab a bite to eat and a beer. Sounded good to me until we sat in the bar/smoking section of the restaurant. I guess cigars are the new thing because 5 people within 10 feet of me were smoking them. Add the 10+ other people smoking cigarettes and it's a full blown smoke screen.

I was ready to leave within 10 minutes. Walking outside was a breath of fresh air but I now smelled like an ashtray. I'm sure my truck will smell like ass tomorrow as well. I would rather be at my house working on some project, watching TV, etc.. than hanging out with drunk smokers.

If I never step foot in another club or smoke filled bar again in my life, that will be more than fine with me. Am I alone on this?

I ran a smoke filled bar for 15 years, worked in them another 10, and developed athsma, and chronic broncitis. Biggest reason I closed it, and wouldn't you know, they banned smoking the next year! :slap:

Most the guys I have been talking to here lately just don't go to bars anymore because of the risky drive home..

No one wants to go to jail, and/or loose drivers license which could end up meaning loosing job.

And then there are the others that are married with kids, and CAN"T get out anymore.

The test case is currently before the Ohio Supreme Ct.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. I've noticed that the new restaurants that are re-opening after rebuilding due to the tornado last May are almost all non-smoking now. Just in the last three years we went from ZERO non-smoking establishments to well over 20. Two hours in a smokey bar and I'm wrecked the next day, can't tolerate it anymore. I used to smoke but quit in 1989 and have slowly lost the ability to put up with it.

It won't be too long and they will have an ordinance to ban smoking here. I like it better when private enterprise makes that decision though.

I think bars/restaurants should expand the non-smoking rule to cover the ENTIRE property, including outdoor spaces and the parking lot.

here in FLA, all the smokers sit on the restaurant patio's, etc...why should us non smokers be stuck inside? and why should we have to walk the "smokers gauntlet" at the door.

most smokers are pigs and should be banned. and those who throw their butts out the car window should be executed. OK, that may be a little harsh...just cut off their hands.

I'm not anti...just do it on your own property.

If I'm in public, especially at a bar/restaurant...I don't want to share your cigarette...I don't want to watch you breastfeed your baby...I don't want to watch you pick your nose or your ass...and I especially don't want to have to hear your life story as you share it with someone on the other end of your cell call.

Most of you have no idea how disgusting it is to open the doors of a busy smoking restaurant/bar in the morning. It used to turn my stomach, and smelled like a spittoon. I had commercial smoke cleaners (more than the recommended amount) cleaned twice a week on contract, but that tar and nicotine gets stuck everywhere. And you can't clean it off walls or rough wood. I used to have to close down every two years, and repaint/seal top to bottom, and clean that crap off all decor items, to cover it up. YUCK!

First thing you did when you got home was to ditch all your clothes because they reek.:ack:

It's a huge cost to the operator to put up with smokers, and who wants to eat excellent tasting food in a fog of cig smoke. But to ban them was to cut off your livelihood, unless everybody did. :beat:

Not true, a lot of my friends are addicted to it, but they know better than to light up anywhere near me! I've helped quite a few quit the filthy habit. I had a standard bet that if they quit for 30 days I'd give them 500$ cash, but if they EVER went back to it, they paid me back the $$. that worked about half the time, and I caught one who lied about it. It was worth the money to have them quit.:seasix:

Nasty stinkin poop eating critters that bark at anything.

You have to turn the fans off in the house to eat or you get dog hairs in your dinner plate. sheeesh!

But you can not smoke on his front porch even because cigarettes STINK!

nope...

fits in perfectly IMO. as in: a business owner should be allowed to have smoking banned from his property if he chooses to do so.

and another owner can choose to allow it...even promote it should he choose.

let the market decide. maybe they are both winners.
