You heard it here first.
Going into the educational media business. All I need to do now is raise $500k, secure $150k in sponsorship and sell $150k in product next year.
Looks like we will have a $5-7 million business in 5 years if we get it right. Our timing is perfect. Huge things going on in this market. We have an amazing model. 70-98% gross margins.
Won't be easy. But that's never stopped me before. Yee haw. :hurray:

What exactly will you be doing? Educational media... is that like a bunch of kids watching porn figuring out what their wankers are for?

I made the same move on May 8, 1998. Never looked back.

Thanks. I've been self employed my entire life. It's more of a subtle transition. From professional services to products.

Capitalization counts. We are not screwing around. We'll be launching a national product/brand. We have a fair amount of production to do.

Nope. We are a content company.

What do you do in the educational media business?
I've been producing a multimedia science program for about 5 years. I am the executive producer. Recently we hammered out a strategy to deliver supplemental curriculum to schools. There is absolutely nothing on the market like what we do.
GM would be a great sponsor.....:D
We help kids and teachers "get" science. It goes far beyond videos. I have a team of PHD educators and scientists who are helping us build a comprehensive educational approach.

The best part is the legacy this business will leave behind when I'm gone. Consulting leaves nothing. We will positively impact millions of kids. And my son will inherit a portfolio of products. (he already has a significant equity share in the company).
More importantly, the person who eventually cures cancer is likely in elementary school right now. But if we keep using 19th century methods to teach 21st century kids, we will continue to bleed innovation. Keeping kids on board with science is critical to our future as a global innovator and our homeland security.
If you ask 100 first graders what their favorite subject is, 92% will tell you "science". If you ask the same kids in seventh grade, the percentage drops to 32%.
We are losing 60% of our future innovators in grade school.

 Can you pay 6 figures for a work from home?
Rumor has it that my position may be going away.
Sucks when you do such a good job that you are no longer needed.
Sounds like a great opportunity, best of luck in your ventures.

Wish you and little Thrakk much luck.
Engineering was fun until I got my first job. Sucked all the fun out of it.

That kid is somebody. Just got a full page feature in Time magazine for kids. Time Warner is giving him a STEM Champion Award for Media Leadership. He also won the international Ecco-hero award from action for nature. His hair is working for him.
Congrats and good luck, from my wife and I.
Thanks!

So how will you be different than the two or there major content providers out there that pretty much have the market locked up?

You seem to know a thing or two...
We have no fantasies about competing with them. But we do see weakness that we can exploit. If they have 90% of the market, we only need 1-2%. It's a huge market. Texas alone spends $800 million on instructional materials.
The main difference is that we create specifically for education. They create for entertainment and then retrofit. They have no peer to peer offerings. There are other key weaknesses, but not going into it here.
We have a niche product. And it's a great niche.
