The time has come for me to buy some tires. I rarely (maybe once a year) will pull a trailer so I'm not too concerned with taking that into consideration. They will be going on an 07 Dodge 1500 4wd. What do you like for an A/T tire? My two main priorities are quietness and treadwear.

BFG AT T/A. I just put my 2nd set on........got 43000 out of the others, but I neglected them. Not quiet but not loud.

If you don't off-road or have to travel dirt roads in bad weather, why do you want A/T tires?
Besides, they are very noisy.
I've got B.F. Groodrich Long Trail T/A's on my Tundra and love 'em. They're quiet and ride smooth.

BFG AT T/A.Those will be my next set of tires. I have some copies made by Dean, but they always seem to separate at 50% tread. Fortunately Les Schwabs stands behind them, but changing them with a trailer on the hitch is a PITA.

love my Nitto terra grapplers A/T Have 15000 miles on them not an issue, still have loads of tread. They are know to last 60k-70k miles. They are priced great and are quiet
I put Michelin LTX A/T2 on my Dodge Cummins 2500. They are quiet, very smooth on the road, and seem to work well off road. I have only gone to the dunes with this setup but it worked well.
I've also used the LTX M/S on my 2wd Yukon and again quiet and smooth. Also a long mileage tire, 70,000 or so for the first set.

I'm gonna throw out something different. The '95 Ford came with an almost new set of Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's. I never would've picked this tire on my own, but after roughly 40,000 miles I'm impressed.
1. Quiet on pavement. Unusual for an All-Terrain tire.
2. Excellent in rain- big deal in the Pacific Northwest (and BF Goodrich T/A's and K/O's weakest point)
3. Good traction in snow and off-road conditions.
4. Wear well- still about 30% tread on those tires.

I looked at those recently too.....seems pretty nice.
I never really noticed a problem on wet roads with BFGs. Mine are T/A K/Os.

I emailed them earlier. I usually always give them the first shot when it comes to tires. My family has been going there since it was Athens Bandag in the late 80's/early 90's.

:iagree: I have the same ones and they are quiet.
What load range do you need?
I have Toyo A/T's right now that I like pretty well, but they are one of the few 35" tire for a 22" wheel that is a load range "E".
BFG's are good tho, Nitto Terra Grappler (Even the trail Grappler's)

I tow my 24' pontoon to Canada three times a year ( 340 miles one way ) plus have to deal with snow. My 1/2 ton suburban I ran Pirelli Scorpions ATR ( LoadRange C ) and got over 50K each set. Great in the snow, not noisy and stable when towing.
On my 3/4 suburban, I had Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's LR E ( very good but expensive ) , a set of bridgstone M883 ( OE from '07 2500 chevy pickup --they sucked ass, I couldn't wait until they wore out ) and I just put a set of Yokohama Geolandar LR E on. Great for towing, seem stable and were good in the one snow we got a couple weeks ago. Best part was they were $127 each from Tire Rack.com

I haven't owned the K/O's, but that's been an observation from peeps I know that have them. Crazy hydroplaning, and so-so traction on wet roads.

re: Michelin. This would be my first choice, IF they made an actual all-terrain tire. They don't. As much as I like Michelin's, the LT A/T's suck the second you leave pavement. In mud, they're hopeless.
re: Nitto. Had those on a F350, and really liked them. A little noisier than most, but outstanding performance off pavement.
re: Toyo A/T. Had a set of those too- and really liked them. Quiet, good wear, decent off-pavement traction.
All depends on priorities. Our truck spends a lot more time off pavement than most, so that's a priority. The Expedition never leaves pavement. It has Bridgestones- and they suck.

Which Bridgestones? I had Dueler Revos and they were great in the snow, rain, on boat ramps and towed well. I had a set of Bridgestone take offs from an '07 3/4 ton pickup ( M883 iirc ) and they sucked

:iagree:
But will also say that the Bridgestone REVO's have been very very good to me.
On my 3rd set with my 7,000+ lb. Duramax Diesel. Weight is killer for tires. I have 38,000 on this set and they look like they are good for at least another 10k.
Best tire I have ever had (use to run BFG TA's) for wet roads and do great in snow.

Not Revo's, unfortunately. POS Duelers. I know the Revo's are a great tire.

That's because they are not mud specific tires. For general off-highway they seem to very good. If mud or rocks specifically there are tires for that need.

Longtrails = road tire
Bryan - I've owned my fair share of trucks, jeeps, etc. The best all purpose A/T you can get is the BFG A/T. :seasix:

Michelins, that's it. Pick your pattern, but they've given me quiet service, excellent handling, and lasted longer by FAR over anything else, and I've had 4x4's all my life!:seasix:
4 sets in the last 20 years, and over 60K on all of them, and still had safe tread when I changed them.
And, as an ex tire installer, they balance the closest I've ever seen, and run truer.

I put 4 Goodyear A/T 's on the back of my dually and could not be happier, I run Firestone steel force on the front.

I've run several sets of BFG A/Ts and they were fine on most everything but mud. If you plan on hitting ANY mud; FORGET the A/Ts.
I'll never understand why people like these for off roading. I've had 2 different sets on 2 different 4x4s and they were useless in the mud.
They caked, lost traction and were very hard to clean off.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T.
Best tire ever for what you are doing.
Quiet, great mileage, last forever.

Another vote for the BFG A/T. Huge difference on my 2wd chevys. I never get in to serious mud but I run down a lot of trails, pastures, right of ways, etc.
I went cheaper last time around. Currently have Kuhmo A/T's. Great performing tire for the price, but treadwear is the suck compared to the BFG.

Michelin LTX AT2 (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=LTX+A%2FT+2&affiliate=FW9)
Great all around tire. Not cheap though. This is what I put on all of our light duty vehicles at the FD. :yesnod:

This thread took off since I checked it last night. Thanks for the help everyone. Porterfield offered me a killer price on the Nitto Terra Grappler's and I might be going with them. My brother ran the TG's on his 250 before, and tried BFG's this time. He thinks it's about even and I should go with whatever I can get the best price on.
