View Full Version : Talking to Ricers

For some reason my Corvette comes up often at work when talking to the guys and some of the young guys tell me they have an import XYZ or whatever crap they have. They often seem confused that I have no clue about their car (make, model, etc). If they push it I tell them I only remember cars that I need to look out for on the road and the list is pretty short.

When talking to the ricers or even the mustang guys, I have to convert RWHP and RWTQ to SAE numbers so they can understand.

Anyone have interesting Ricer conversation story?

First off how old are you :D. I have a few friends that have some pretty nice ricers (+500 rwhp/rwtq) but you are right, most don't understand cars (hey, they're young and only get exposed to other ricers). Most usually think the louder the blowoff valve or exhaust, the faster the car.

On a side note, I recently purchased a yellow Honda S2k from my bro for a summer DD so I guess that puts me in the ricer class, but it's stock and gunna stay that way :lol1:. I've been driving it all week and it's funny how many kids/younger guys in their 20's (usually driving beater hondas with fart cans) will try to race me by bobbing and weaving out of traffic, more so than when I'm in the vette. The guys that I run into in the faster imports (WRX's, STi's, etc) usually just wave and go about their day. :takdir:

I am old enough to have 2 boys that could be driving ricers. Not older than sin, but pretty darn close. :nutkick:

I know there are some fast ricers out there, I have talked to some of them but I guess I am the "GO USA" type of guy and have zero interest in the "fast and furious" type of cars.

I noticed most of them use accumulated HP numbers. When they purchase a bolt on and it if advertises to add 100HP, they assume they have another 100HP, I tell them it doesn't work that way. Most or unwilling to put it on a dyno or meet me on the track for some reason.

Often driving on the highway I get a fart machine riding my azz, I know half the time they just want to see me hit it. Often they back off when they hear me downshift while cruising between 70 and 80.

I am glad to see the young guys interested in cars, I thought it was dead for a long time. I don't bust their balls often, nothing gained by insulting a mans car. The only time I will ride someone is if they are talking some crap, then I feel it is my place to inform them of the facts.

The guys at work that I give a hard time to is just in jest and I let them know I am just having some fun, we have the same interest just different taste.

If it was for your Vette, then yes. For a ricer maybe 5HP.

I had to bolt it on, the fart cans exhausts were scaring me.

I was thinking you were gonna go with one of those exhaust mods that sounds like a turbo.

I decided instead to cut off my tips and weld coffee cans on, I need that ricer look.

I enjoy telling them I have a Mercruser under the hood:wtf:

Surprising though that many of them are car guys and know what an original ZR-1 is:bilmem:

I have met quite a few guys that know a lot about Corvettes but have never owned or driven one.

I dont think its just ricers, hell I have spoke to other domestic owners that just dont get it or understand about dyno's, modifications (what HP to expect) and cars in general. Have a buddy whom I had to explain too the advertised HP on a part isnt always what you end up with to the wheels...

I have no problem talking with car enthusiasts regardless or their preference. It's the asshats with penis extensions that I have no time for. Sorry, No Hable Fartpipe.

Most of the ricers or more PC term, modified Japanese manufactured automobile drivers with coffee can exhaust with an exhaust tone resembling the sound of a fart, have no real idea how much HP/TQ they have. Most I have talked to give me their numbers and then when I ask which dyno they used, I usually get the deer into headlights look.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a ricer hater, I don't like them either, I only buy domestic but that is just me. I enjoy talking to car enthusiast regardless of there make/model.

It does irritate me I can not go for a cruise down the highway without someone wanting a race or show.
