Got the big brown box today! :hurray:

No damage! Whew!
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff68/Dr_Munch/ACI003.jpg

Lined up and ready to drill some holes.
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff68/Dr_Munch/ACI006.jpg

Got the brackets mounted in about 2 hours, pretty simple actually. Next step is to take it up to the barn and get it sanded and primed, then off to the paint shop for some super sexy yellow. Hope to have it on the car by the 9th.

More pics to come, stay tuned.

I have a Caravaggio rear spoiler tucked away at the Barn that will most likely go back on once the splitter is on. Other than that I have a couple small things planned but nothing major.

Those are great mods the front spliter and rear spoiler, those mods would have gotten me more MPH at the Mile, I am really looking forward to painted pictures on the ACI as I may do this to run the Mile faster:cheers:

If your car sits as low as mine, you'll find the splitter is quite good at scooping up gravel when pulling into the driveway at the barn. :D

Why don't you paint it yourself in the paint booth down at the barn? :yesnod:MY is a mofo to color match. Even "good" shops have a very tough time with it.

Match it in sunlight, easy.
Match it in shade or overcast, can be done.
Match it in artificial (indoor) light, difficult.

Matching it under all three of those conditions, nearly impossible.

The spoiler is already painted, it actually used to be on the car but I took it off. Once the splitter is on I'll see how the car looks with the spoiler and go from there.

Y2K is right about matching the MY, I almost wish I had got a black car which was my second color choice... but black comes with it's own special problems and I am way too lazy to try and keep a black car looking nice all the time. Plus the MY is sooooo sexy!

Completed stage II at the barn tonight!
Did the initial sanding and shot some primer last night.

Wet sanded tonight while GB did some final massaging on his one piece rear clip project.

Dropping it off at the painters tomorrow morning, brining the fuel door so he can match the paint.

Hopefully have it back by next Thursday, keeping my fingers crossed. Stage III coming soon!:hurray:

I dropped it off Friday morning and he said he would have it done by Mon or Tues (we'll see). He said he wasn't sure on the price as he didn't know how much material it was going to take to make it match but he guessed around $120. I was guessing over $200 so I was very pleasantly surprised.:hurray:

Drum roll please...

Got it installed tonight and it looks pretty good if I do say so myself. The paint turned out great at a cost of $150. If you are in this area and need painting done I would highly recommend you talk to Barry at Nansemond Auto Body, he was great to deal with and his work is top notch.
The car is filthy and covered with bugs but I'm going to clay and wax it tomorrow then try to get some glamor shots. You can't see in the pics but Gary helped me put the Caravaggio rear spoiler on Saturday and that went well.

On to the pics.

I mentioned this once at CF, as someone was complaining about repeatedly running into curb blocks with it, as if it was some sort of a product flaw.
They didn't appreciate me advising them basic parking tips either....But seriously, how many times does it take before you finally figure out where the front of your car is? :bilmem:

Do you get to remove the 3-piece rubber / plastic OEM pieces when you use this splitter? The 2 flexible corner pieces get removed. (The splitter utilizes some of those bolt holes).
The hinged center section remains in place on the car, as it's primary function is direct air up into the radiator...but with the splitter, it's not easily visible.

The center part of the ACI is open in the front, but it looks like it is blocked in the back. Will this not reduced the air flow for cooling? If it is blocked can it be opened up to allow more air flow?

The splitter is dished up in the back yes but it's right at the rear of the opening for the radiator and then the factory air dam goes behind it sort of creating an air tunnel right to the radiator. I have heard some people say their temps went up marginally but I have not experienced that at all so far.

Thanks Munch, I just ordered mine a few minutes ago. Cannot wait for it to get here.

On a side note, I was planning to have it painted to match the body, but when I first thought about putting one on sometime ago I thought it might look good in a satin black but just was not sure how it would look. Well yesterday I found this post on the Digital Corvette Forum and I think it will look good on my Torch Red. The picture is about half way down.

They do look cool, and he says there is the mesh tyer screen behind them. I may think about doing it to mine also. If gives it a little different look. I will post up what I do when it arrives. He also said that he painted it himself with the Duplicolor rattle cans of Satin Black. Not sure if I want to try and do it myself.

thanks for all the info and feedback.

If you're going black paint it youself, you can always wet sand any dirt or blobs out and if it really turns out bad you can resand it and have someone else paint it.

TR6speed
04-15-2010, 8:10pm
I will probably give it a try. I have painted small parts before. As long as I prep it, sand it, tackrag it, and prime it properly, I think it will be fine. Only issue now, is when will I receive it. I just checked my e-mail and i received a notice that the ACI splitter is back ordered. So no telling when I will get it. Oh well as the saying goes "good things come to those who wait".

Painting is the easy part. Wetsanding isn't bad either. Polishing it is a PIA. Cause of the shape, it mostly has to be done by hand. Not bad, just time consuming really.
