Jeremy Mayfield arrested for meth possession
By Jay Busbee

The long fall of Jeremy Mayfield continues with the news that he was arrested Tuesday night in Catawba, North Carolina on charges of meth possession.

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office had visited Mayfield's home to investigate charges of stolen property, and during a search turned up 1.5 grams of methamphetamine. The search also found items that may or may not have been stolen. Mayfield is out of prison on a $3,000 bond.

Mayfield's story is one of the most unfortunate in recent racing history. A Chase-level driver as recently as 2005, his final race was the Richmond spring event in 2009. Soon afterward, he was suspended for failing a random drug test at Richmond. Mayfield fought the results of the test, saying they were skewed by his use of allergy and attention-deficit medicine.

From there, the story devolved into grim farce, with Mayfield, his relations and NASCAR throwing charges back and forth regarding possible meth cooking, suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Mayfield's father, and an alleged conspiracy by Brian France and others to keep Mayfield out of NASCAR. (Here's a complete rundown of the Mayfield saga in 2009. Ignore the musical element.)

The police report, according to the AP, listed Mayfield as "unemployed."

sad.

Sounds like dude is pissing away a hell of a good deal for a stupid buzz...

I always wonder why they write crap like this.. If it was stolen it might be newsworthy, but might not? I guess anything they can say to make him sound.. more criminal?

Dude has thrown his life down the toilet. More opportunity than most of us will ever have, and he's pissed it away. Hell, I feel sorry for the guy. Obviously he is fighting some demons he can't beat. Shit like this usually doesn't end well.:sadangel:

:iagree:

I always thought he was a talented guy, very sad to see this. I had always hoped that the allegations against him were untrue and that he was a victim of circumstances. Sadly he's a victim of himself.

Some people can't fight the addiction. Personally I feel like drugs should be legal anyway since prohibition doesn't work and is draining our country financially along with other things. Drugs will thin the herd, and a large majority of crack/meth heads etc. won't be missed. This guy had a lot of talent driving cars and is obviously pissing it away. I would rather see him turn it around as I would the likes of Lindsey Lohan. Maybe they can't deal with the fame and money just the same as others have not. I wouldn't wish their problems on anyone, and really do hope they can pull out of the nose dive they are in. It's sad to see people with a degree of talent and smarts go all to hell.

There are so many different avenues they can take to get some help the problem is they don't want help, do you feel sorry for a guy walking into a lion's cage with a pork chop necklace?

There are so many of us working stiffs who will never be able to live out our dreams, this guy did and f'kd it all up on his own, for that I don't feel sorry for him or others like him. Getting in a car accident is not by choice, doing drugs and ruining your life is.

You're a better man than I caring the way you do. :cert:

We can NOT legislate morality, so quit trying, all it does is piss off the .gov and cost the taxpayers MONEY......eff em......

there ain't enough .gov around in the total work force to stop drugs or anything else some power twit thinks he can enforce.....

which is a message to the right AND left......
