Last night, like a damn fool, I was watching the news.
The latest about "Occupy Atlanta" in down town Atlanta's Woodruff Park.
The newscaster identified a young man with an AK-47 strapped across his back. the young man would only identify himself as "Porch."
He stated to the interviewer that while he didn't believe in what the "occupiers" were there for, he was there to show his support for them in their right to demonstrate. What part the weapon played in this I'm not too sure of.
Rest assured, I'm all for the rights of gun owners,.......but I thought that carrying an assault rifle in a public park or a public gathering was a serious offense.
WTF
it's just a rifle, the army has assault rifles (M-16s, M-4s).
don't know what the open carry law is in GA, legal here.

True........but naturally the media, in all of their infinite wisdom and knowledge, identified it as "An automatic weapon."

and, as we all know, the media is biased and misinformed when it comes to guns.
open carry is legal in NM, don't know about GA.

Dumb question.
If you have a permit for open carry(let's say a hand gun)and you have it tucked in a holster out of view, is that illegal?
Do you need a concealed permit for that?
Thanks Gun Mongers! :D :D :D

Care to re-read the original post?
And while you're there, point out the question.
You know......it would have had a "?" at the end of the sentence.

in NM, no permit is required to open carry. you can carry as many at once as you see fit.
but.
if you want to conceal a gun, you need a concealed carry permit, and you can only conceal one at a time. to get this permit, you have to attend a 15 hour training course and demonstrate proficiency on a range (hit the target), and pay a fee, and requalify on the range every 2 years.

You understand I was kidding with the gun monger at the end.
Hence the 3 smileys.
I don't understand what you're getting at?
I don't know the laws in general which is why I am asking.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering.
I was confused if you had an open permit were you allowed to conceal as well.
They are 2 totally different permits. Got it.

no such thing as an 'open carry' permit. it's a right you have here. no forms, no paperwork, no fees...kind of like your right to speak freely. you can stand on the street corner and sound like an idiot, and you can carry guns openly.
permit is only required if you want to conceal carry a gun.
so i can walk down the road with a .45ACP in a holster on my hip, no sweat. but, if i cover it with a jacket, then i need a permit.
Thanks, that's what I was wondering.

I've never heard of needing any type of permit for "open carry". Please correct me if I'm wrong.:seasix:

Ahhhhh.......now I getcha. :seasix:
I have had a CCW for all of my adult life.
My issue was with carrying at public gatherings on public property.
On the back of my carry permit it states:
A public gathering shall include, but not be limited to : Athletic or sporting events, churches or church function, political rallies or functions publicly owned or operated buildings
To me, while he was attempting to make a statement, it seemed foolish to me to go be-bopping around with an AK on his back.

In Minnesota we have a "permit to carry" This allows a person to carry open or concealed. Neither of which you can do without the "permit".
I have never open carried but I do carry concealed every day. I once walked into a best buy not noticing that my shirt got on top of my gun in the truck... Walked right past the dude at the door and shopped like normal.
Anyways one could say that in MN you can get a permit to open carry, even if it happens to come bundled with the ability to conceal as well.

I think, regardless of "shall carry" and suchlike, the gendarmerie can get you on vague charges like "public nuisance" or "creating a disturbance" or similar - if you panic the sheep?
