Was doing my online banking and noticed a significant deposit that I'm pretty sure I didn't make. All I can find online is a copy of the deposit slip which is a generic slip with just my account number on it, not a slip from my check book. Do banks keep copies of the item (check, money order, cashiers check) that was deposited?

I know I can wait until Monday to find this out from the bank, but my curiosity is piqued. :confused5:

$5 deposits are standard tests. They will remove it automatically

The deposit is for $5,000. Anything over $12.95 is significant to me.

You're "pretty sure" you didn't make a deposit of $5000?

I deposited $200 in cash at my bank on a Friday. On Saturday I was online and saw a deposit of $1900 that I knew I didn't make. I checked my deposit slip and sure enough it said $1900. Even tho' I doubt the error could have been traced back to me, I went back in that same day to tell them about it. It wasn't my money and even tho' I could have used it since I was unemployed at the time, there was no way in hell I was going to keep it.

No, I wasn't trying to be cute when I said I was "pretty sure". I'm getting older is all, and I do tend to forget sometime. To make it clear though, I know I didn't make a $5K deposit Friday. All I did was cash a $100 check Friday. Sorry for the error.

My bank switched to a virtual deposit slip.

The teller pulls up a screen and fills in fields to make the deposit. It can be printed out, but there is no handwritten slip.
