If you have under a 3 foot run, how important is the thickness of the wire? The internet says way too much conflicting shit.
Of course thicker is better than thin but youre not gonna wanna go too thick.
Does anyone have any actual factual knowledge in this area?

For <3', I can't imagine that would have much effect at all, unless you are using REALLY lossy wire.
You'd do better with many strands of thin wire than fewer strands of thick wire because your signal is carried on the surface of the wire. More surface, less loss. Probably shouldn't go any less than 12-14ga wire though, even for a short run.

Its just the wires from the sound bar to the TV..all my HDMI cables are bionic high dollar shit..fk all of you who say 5 dollar HDMI cables are just as good as the pricier ones.
But these wires from the sound bar to the TV need to be just right iMO

if you open up that soundbar you will probably find the wire is about the same size as a redhead's c.h. so it's really moot. I get it tho what/why u r trying to do.

You'll never hear the difference and you're system probably isn't good enough to be able to reproduce the difference if you could tell.
Having said that, I'd go with 12. :D
Though I think I have a roll of something like 8 lying around the house :leaving:

When it comes to home audio I use a very scientific and mathematical approach to the subject. I look at the back of the speaker and see what kind of jack it has. That will give you a very good idea of what wire to use. If you look back there and see one of those cheap plastic clips, there is no need to throw a big wire at it.
Generally speaking, for the low power speakers, center channel, surround, etc I use 14ga. and I will use 12ga for the higher power front speakers.
Yes, I know that the audiophiles will chime in and say the diference is huge, and maybe if I was running some uber-thousand dollar system, you might be able to tell, but with the Yamaha reciever and Bose speakers that I currently have, I have never been able to tell even the slightest difference based on wire. Over the years I have had it hooked up in 5 different configurations using everything from 16ga to 12ga wire on the center/surrounds. It is not the best out there but it does deliver very very good sound quality for an older 5.1 system.
Speaker wire. Did I read that right? Speaker wire?
You bitch that the forum is dead and this is the best you can come up with? :sadangel:

Go with 12 ga and you should be just fine.
If this doesn't work, break out the 12g and dispatch the POS sound bar.
12g wire is fine and it's fairly cheap in terms of price. You don't need gold plaated shit as you'll never notice the difference in quaality aanyway unless you have a 10megawatt system and more speakers/amps than your house can contain within the walls.

3'...break out a coat hanger and toss it in.
In all seriousness here is my breakdown.
up to 15' - 16gauge is plenty
16' to 50' - 14 gauge
51' - 90' - 10 gauge
I used to wire big clubs and bars with a guy who used to work for Yamaha and later turned out to be my sound guy. We use to use 16 gauge heater wire. Multi-stranded with a real thick heavy rubber coating. Wouldn't matter the length that's what we would use.
It was good enough for the 25,000 watts at my place. :D
Now everything I run is 11 gauge. Quad core Canare 4s11
I wrap both reds together and both whites together on each end(4 wires internally for bi-amping/wiring). Each one is 14 gauge, together I think it's 11 gauge.
This stuff is the shit. Looks nice and sits nice, also not expensive.

I bought a Stereo! Wow! With two speakers! Wild!
So, I'm listening to this thing, and then I heard the quad system with the four speakers and I was like this is it, this is great. So I got rid of the stereo and got the quad. And this was the sound, I was looking for.
But I listen to it a couple of days and I'm like 'Hey this sounds like shit!'
So, I went out and I got the dodecaphonic with the 12 speakers. And, this was more to my liking ... for a while.
But the ear gets pretty sophisticated pretty fast and I got rid of that and got the milliphonic with the 1,000 speakers. And I'm listening to that one and I'm like, 'Hey, this sounds like shit too! The other one was shit one, this one is shit too!'
So, finally I got the googlephonic, the highest number of speakers before infinity. Sounds like shit!
So, then I said, 'Hey, maybe it's the needle!'
I had the old typical diamond needle. I searched around and finally got the moonrock needle, cost me 3 million bucks for that. So, now I have a googlephonic stereo with a moonrock needle. It's ok for a car stereo. Wouldn't want it in my house.

Nordost Odin Supreme Reference Cables
The ODIN SUPREME REFERENCE LOUDSPEAKER CABLE
uses twenty-four 20 AWG conductors made from 99.99999% oxygen free copper (OFC) with an extrusion of 85 microns of silver on the surface. Each conductor is wound with a helical “Dual Mono-Filament” of Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) with an extruded FEP jacket. The careful matching of conductors with a very high degree of concentricity and precision in the manufacturing process results in a cable of superb sonic performance. The twenty-four conductors are arranged in four groups of six so that the cable can easily be configured for bi-wiring or bi-amping.
The ODIN SUPREME REFERENCE LOUDSPEAKER CABLE is terminated with Nordost rhodium-plated beryllium copper low mass Z banana plugs. These low mass connectors offer the very best interface and impedance matching between the cable and the attached components. ODIN is also available with special rhodium plated Furutech spade connectors.
Specifications:
Insulation: High purity class 1.003 extruded Flourinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP)
Costruction: Precision Dual Micro Mono-Filament design
Conductors: 24 x 20 AWG extruded silver over 99.99999% OFC
Capacitance: 9.2pF/ft
Inductance: .15uH/ft
Speed: 98% speed of light
Odin Speaker Cable:
2M - $26,000/pr
2.5M - $29,000/pr
3M - $32,0000/pr
4M - $38,000/pr

Bah, couldn't muster up 2 more percent??
It really depends on her weight. If she's 100-120 lbs. 18 gauge should hold her just fine. 121-140 lbs and you'll want to go to 14 gauge. 141+ lbs. and she can probably break free of anything so you should give her a double dose so she doesn't wake up in the middle of the rape.
