Ok clowns aren't after me but I can't sleep. Insomnia, a snoring EMT Basic student, rain and one too many broken bones all add up to yet another sleepless night. Someone sing to me or something.:banghead::banghead:

Better yet, take and Ambien and then rub one out. Try to see if you finish before you fall asleep.

I've been a chronic insomniac since I graduated from college in '83. I usually don't sleep more than 2 or 3 hours a night!

So what if any remedies have you guys found to be helpful in trying to get sleep? I usual can't sleep longer than 4 to 5 hrs, & slowly getting worse. I wake several times during that sleep.

Unfortunatley, my doctor won't subscribe Anbiem to me. He says it's a dangerous drug that's very addicting. As far as rubbing one out......it doesn't help me sleep, but it's a good way to kill 10 minutes!

regular exercise helps, but avoid 2-3 hrs. before bedtime. also, go to bed & get up at the same time everyday/night. THAT'S the one I can't do because my schedule is totally effed. :confused5:

I tried Lunesta, but my mouth felt like I'd been sucking on a lead pipe all night.I've heard Ambien does that, too.

After being up for three days one time the doc gave me Anbiem, put me out for a few hours (six I think). Normally I only sleep 3 to 4 hours per night. I work any hour of the day/night as needed, my body clock is inop. My doctor thinks I have sleep apnea but I haven't been tested yet. Poor diet, to much caffeine/alcohol, no exercise, stress in life, long work hours and strange sleep hours, no wonder I can't sleep. :willy:

Ambien, Wendy, Ambien.

For the rest of the curious. Ambien is not a dangerous drug. My mother is an inspector for the Food and Drug Administration and I have been taking 10mg of Ambien for the past five years every night. I have chronic insomnia heightened by sleep apnea. When I first started taking Ambien I did do some strange things. Like try to piss in the closet and my dreams were strange. It doesn't take long for your body to get used to it. It's not addictive in the physical sense but I can tell you that if it's prescribed in the manner it is for me that you will not sleep with out it - ever. The Ambien I take was not originally clinically trialed or approved for long term use. Ambien CR is. I know everyone has heard the "horror" stories about this drug but they are simply not true. Also, it is available in a generic called "Zolpidem". It's cheaper than Ambien and just as effective. Ambien does not make me sleepy like you think it would. Once you get used to taking it you swallow a pill about thirty minutes before you go to bed. I feel absolutely no effects and if I don't make myself go to bed I will not ever feel sleepy. I cannot tell you how it works now, at first I did feel fuzzy and sleepy, but even when I think I won't go to sleep - I do. Some nights I don't sleep all the way through and I will wake up about four in the morning. These are far and few in between though. Sex on Ambien is a joy in of itself. :o_o: You can "go" longer if you know what I mean but it takes a little more arousal than normal to get things "straight", not much more though. One thing you don't want to do is decide, right before you go to bed, that you want to go to the store and grab a snack or something. I can feel totally fine but get behind the wheel and you realize it takes longer to get the vehicle stopped than usual and your turns are a little wider. Like up on the curb of the opposite side of the street wider. :willy:

BTW, most of my chronic insomnia was brought on by extensive use of narcotics, mainly Cocaine use. I would stay up for 3 to five days several times a month for years at a time and it had devastating effects on my body.

Hope this gives someone some insight to Ambien.

I didn't have any side affects from Ambien. I was on some type of pain meds for a while that was causing nightmares, I went back to morphine after that.

Ambien Cr is over the counter right?

No, any form of Ambien is strictly on a prescription basis. I have tried the CR but it doesn't seem to work as good.

Also, with Ambien I don't feel groggy, tired or in a fog. I wake up rested and ready to go. But, if you take Ambien you should be sure you can get eight hours of sleep. This is why I go to bed early on the weeknights. I am in bed by 10:00 PM every weeknight and I am up at 6:00 AM every week morning.

The stuff I have tried either has no affect or I feel like shiz in the morning. I have been looking for Ambien but now I know why I haven't found it, thanks for the info. Looks like I will be sticking to beer for now.

You have been going through some stressful times lately. Have you talked to your doctor about any anxiety medication? This could and should help.
