View Full Version : The continuing saga of my computer woes

You peeps were kind enough to help me pinpoint my computer problems (slow connections, lost connections, etc.). I decided to switch from Comcrap to AT&T DSL today. Called the number and got someone in Central America who knew even less than me about it. At first he insisted DSL wasn't available in my area. "BS! My neighbor has it." Eventually he said it was available.

Told him I wanted the fastest speed available; he said that would be the Elite service (125x dialup, 6Mbps), $29.95/mo. for 12 mos. "It says $23.95 on your website." No, he insisted, it's $29.95. Finally got him down to $24.95. Then he wanted my SSN for a credit check. "NFW! I have 30+ years of history with AT&T." Said he couldn't process the order.

Dropped by the local AT&T store on the way home and got it for $19.95. Plus a free modem and router. But the first few bills I get will say $48 because the special price won't be reflected for a few months: "You'll just be paid ahead is all." WTF? Anyway, it's a DIY installation after the people come out to tinker with my outside phone box. I hope AT&T's trouble shooters know more about DSL than their sales people. I'm already having second thoughts.

I love you Yanks (most of y'all) but Jeezus H.......I make one phone call to my IP, get a good price and they deliver, set-up and don't start billing me until the following month and all of the equipment is included. Just like when I go to register my cars, I make one phone call to my insurance agency, they email me my pink card, I print it off, go down to the registries office (with the car I'm about to register) pay $75 (if I need a plate) for one year and I'm legal, no messing around with title bs. :bilmem:

Now all you f'ks out there who love to do this, don't go making this into a America vs. Canada debate, I'm just sayin' is all.

Why the hell haven't they ever made a TV/computer/phone/radio/whatever in one appliance? Small TVs have radios, large ones don't. Computers have radios, but not TVs. They all do similar things. And make them with dials....

The computer I am accessing this forum on has a TV, a phone, a fax, a radio, a video game player and a GPS in addition to all the things I can do with the other programs on the computer.
