So I've been having some weird feelings lately.
A little depression about where I am in life right now and how things have turned out. Nothing out of the ordinary for a lot of people.
Sometimes I feel like my ticker just ain't right and I can feel it pounding in my chest(like palpations) and so I did some research on the interweb, because as we all know the interweb is always right. :seasix:
I've self diagnosed myself :D with having anxiety attacks due to the sh!t that has gone on the past few years and my recent over analyzing of my life. Not to mention getting back in business for myself seems to be taking a toll on me.
I do smoke and have 1 coffee a day, and have also been sitting behind a desk more or less the past couple years(lack of exercise). These all aid in palpations.
Since Friday I have smoked 8 cigarettes had 2 coffees and have been doing some breathing exercises that I must say work amazingly well.
On to the treatment of my self diagnosis.
I've been reading about breathing exercises as a form of controlling these attacks and becoming a calmer and clearer thinker so the anxiety doesn't take control of me.
Here are the exercises if anyones interested.
BTW: If anyone needs to be diagnosed over the internet let me know your symptoms and I will do my best to help you out.

Anxiety Breathing Techniques - An Easy One To Try First
Four-Seven-Eight Breath
Best done sitting but can be done standing or lying down.
1. Sit with your back straight and your hands resting comfortably in your lap or on your thighs.
Look ahead...try not to fix your gaze on anything in particular. Slightly closing your eyes helps.
Try to focus internally on your breathing.
All inhalations are done through your NOSE; all exhalations through your MOUTH.
Throughout the exercises keep the tip of your tongue in contact with the top of your mouth, just behind your top teeth.
2. Commence inhaling slowly, smoothly and deeply to a mental count of 4 seconds. Fill your lower lungs first (by pushing out your abdomen), then your middle and upper lungs.
Hold your breath for a mental count of 7 seconds.
Slowly and smoothly exhale for a mental count of 8 seconds.
As you exhale, try to let go of all your anxiety, tension & stress.
That's one round. Pause briefly without inhaling then start another round. This natural pauseis very therapeutic and relaxing.
Do 10-12 rounds to begin. Build up to 25-30 rounds several times a day AND whenever you feel anxious or nervous, etc.
Summary: Inhale for 4 seconds - Hold for 7 seconds - Exhale for 8 seconds - Pause briefly - Repeat.
Benefits
Calms your mind
Tones your nervous system
Regulates your breathing
Balances your emotions

Take a .5mg Ativan....They work like a charm...Quitting smoking is very stressful, but is the right thing to do...That may have something to do with it.....I take Ativan occasionally....Only when the stress really piles on though. It stops the exact feelings that you describe.

:toetap::slap: First off I would never call someone an idiot unless they deserve it. (okay maybe that's not always true.:leaving:)
With that being said, anxiety can be pretty bad and if you find that doing breathing exercises helps you than go for it. Not everything requires a pill but I do suggest you follow up with your doctor to make sure it's just anxiety and not something else.
Also, I suggest adding a few yoga moves/positions to the breathing exercises. You'd be surprised at how twisting your body into different poses can really destress you. As a matter of fact, I have been known to help a few patients from time to time do yoga moves--- not voluntarily though.:D

I've never been a fan of taking drugs or the doctors who prescribe them.
That will be my last resort cause sometimes it scares the hell out of me.
I'm wondering if I am having nicotine withdrawls as well.

If you just quit smoking recently, yes... you'll have all sorts of issues for the next several weeks to several months. I wouldn't put what you've described as unreasonable for someone just having stopped smoking.
You should see them tapering off, though. Breathing exercises might be good but if your symptoms persist, I'd see a doctor.

Of course you are. When you are craving a cigarette co you feel like you're having trouble concentrating? When you light up now, does your heart rate increase substantially at first? If so, you're having withdrawal. (Yes, I know that could be symptomatic of other things). While I admire your effort to reduce your smoking, the fact is that a few cigs a day is just as bad for you as a pack.
I have so many questions I don't know where to start. You need to get a check-up to rule out physical reasons for the way you feel. I doubt that you will check out healthy. Follow doctor's orders to fix what's wrong, which may be blood pressure, pre-diabetes, heart defect/blockage, emphysema, and so on. You will likely need to change your diet, too, but the one thing that will make you feel 10x better is exercise. You will feel immediate benefits--sleep better, head will clear, heart rate and BP will go down, breathing will relax, more energy.
I've BTDT, and I wouldn't go back for anything.

What he said. Ativan is a truly a beautiful thing. If you are dead set against taking drugs, work out/exercise getting your heart rate into an elevated optimum zone based on your resting heart rate for 30-45 minutes, (see a doc first if you've never gone on an exercise program before). Done with the workout, take a hot shower and have a beer. Amazing what that simple little routine will do for ya. Puts me in a great mood every time. :yesnod:

IMO, stop diagnosing yourself online. When I do that I usually blow the thing out of proportion and end up stressing out because I think I have something serious when it's some simple thing.
Find whatever works for you to relax and do it. Breathing exercises, Yoga, rubbing one out, etc...

I've never been a fan of taking drugs or the doctors who prescribe them.
I thought some of the same things, especially the doctor part. I am a recovering addict so I have to be careful. Then I had at heart attack at 36. Within the last year, I started to have symptoms of heart problems again. I went to the doctor and he told me he thought it was anxiety attacks. He prescribed me Klonopin. It does exactly what he said it would do and I don't even notice it. It is a trade name for Cloazepam - so it is a benzo. It can be abused but I am only using maybe 15 pills every 45 days - if that much. It has changed my life dramatically. I have more patience then I ever did and it doesn't feel as though the world is closing in on me like it used to. My financial situation is very tough and I don't seem to have near as much stress but I still have all the bills that I did have.
Seriously, think about it and talk to your doctor. The stress can kill you. The blood pressure rising and the stress on the nervous system takes a long term effect. Wish I would have had the guts to tell my doctor sooner. BTW, the anxiety attacks can effect your sex life. It can lead to impotence and erectile dysfunction sooner than what you think. I didn't know this until my doctor told me - if that's not enough to get you to see one, then I don't know what is.

Some anti-inflamatory over the counter drugs can cause anxiety. If I take it for more than a day in heavy doses (sciatica), I have very anxious, restless sleep. Ibuprofen is one.
