It's that time again, kids! So grab a beer...and no Googling!
1. In the late 1950, it was decided that Interstate highway signs for routes and destinations should be green with white letters. Why green? (Yes, it was the motorists' favorite, but what is the scientific reason?)

2. A man buys 20 pencils for 20 cents and gets three kinds of pencils in return. Some of the pencils cost 4 cents each, some are two for a penny and the rest are four for a penny. How many pencils of each type does the man get?
3. A calculator displays a five-digit number. The first four digits are 8735. These digits form a logical sequence. What is the fifth number in the series?
4. Re-arrange the letters in the word 'egomaniac' to spell a sign seen in many stores. What is it?
5. It's the ninth inning. The Nittany Nads (Go, Nads!) are batting. The pitcher throws the ball. The batter hits a long fly ball to the right field corner. The outfielder runs toward the ball, gets in the right position, and catches the ball! But at the last second, he drops the ball--on purpose! Why did he do that?
6. My daughter was doing a very common household task, so common, in fact, that you may do it every day. "Is 50 enough, Dad?", she asked. No, I don't think so, I said. Is 125 enough, she then asked. No, I don't think that's enough either; I'd try 90. What was she doing?
7. Can you find the party hats in this photo?:

It will absorb light really well in the UV range IIRC, which will make it stand out better in the dark.
2) No sir, incorrect
Damn. I'm not sure how hard I want to think this afternoon.

Signs are best seen at night and day with green background and white letters?

3. 1 8x7=35, there fore 8735. 3x5= 15 sp therefore the 5th number would be a 1, and the 6th would be a 5.
No sir, incorrect. This one took me a minute and I know the answer.

Here's a spectrum to support the answer to the Interstate sign question. It shows that green/yellow is the dominant color we see from sunlight.

Since it's in the outfield, the infield fly rule does not apply, the player is pushing for a force out, possible double play.

Warming up food in the microwave.
50 is for 50 seconds.
125 is for 1 minute, 25 seconds.
90 is back to just seconds, and would be 1 minute 30 seconds.

This was similar to my first thought. Not quite what the author is looking for.

#2, is it within the rules to buy in non-whole penny units? Seems like the only way to solve it:
3 x 1@$0.04 = 12
2 x 4@$0.01 = .5
15 x 2@$0.01 = 7.5

He dropped the ball to deny the perfect game.

While I greatly appreciate xXBudXx for handling the Puzzle today, I didn't want to deny you your win. My computer has slowed to a crawl, and I knew I couldn't post fast enough to tell who is right or wrong with their answers. Here'sa hoping this post goes thru.
