Damnit, my new car just got a scratch. Don't know how since it's been parked in a lot very few times. Came out of Kroger, and there it was. Paint scrape on the right rear plastic bumper cover. I haven't done a paint repair in 20 years, so refresh me. I remember sanding with 60 grit, then 120, then 325. Prime, sand with 1000, then paint.
What is used for overspray removal nowadays? Clay bar? (The big white thing in the pic at the upper left is the camera flash, not orange peel))

Is that white paint from whatever contacted your car?

Start with the minimal of aberration, see if you can get it off with a paint cleaner by hand, if not then try a combination of compound and polish, with different hardness of pads, sanding should be your absolute last resort, and then obviously if none of the above work paint.

Nope, that's what is under my red paint. I wish it were white paint.

It's going to have to be painted. What do you recommend for oversray removal?

Use a clay bar with a diluted car wash solution, 2 caps of car soap the rest with water, put it in a spray bottle and use liberally on the panels that need it. Also soak the clay bar, I always put in my wash bucket and message it in the soapy water. Helps with lubrication.

Take it to your buddies body shop and have it done correctly by a pro...He'll prolly do it for free. $125, if he needs to paint it .

The primer ,(above the tape), is where the issue was, but Rick will shoot the back 1/4 , from the seams.

That red metallic is going to be tough to match and blend. I've painted several cars. Best to take this one to a pro shop.

Does your clay bar message you back? :bigears:

Damn, that's pretty cheap. Last night I needed to test the C5 (wife said Service Traction Control came on) and when I started it, it must have rolled back far enough that the garage door scraped the rear facade. FECK.
My front bumper has some rash on it too - probably should take it in and have both re-painted.
I was thinking it would cost over $1000.00

Ya, I was expecting a $500.00 bill, but Rick hooked me up. I love going to his shop. Today we saw a Viper, a C-4, a '68 Vette, a '69 Nova, and that was just near the door... in various stages of repair....:cool1: He's a Vette specialist.

That looks good! I may have to let a body man do mine, too, especially since someone posted about how hard it is to match red metallic. I'm just a damned tightwad. :D
