I've been working on the base for that giant model of the enterprise so it's been sitting on a desk for a few weeks.
For unknown reasons it fell off the desk tonight. The main hull is separated from the secondary hull (wires are holding it on) and the secondary hull has some cracks.
Shit. I'm not sure I can repair it. The joint where it broke is a high stress area. Plus, I can't separate it completely because of the wiring.
WTF caused it to fall? Nobody was up there. No earth quake. Nuthin'.

the Borg is closer than we thought, and their force field is stronger than we thought!! :willy:

that's a cool model.

Nah. Mrs. Thrakk fell out of bed.
One of the neighbor hoodlums lobbed a tennis ball against your house causing it to shake.

I really hope I can do a repair that looks decent and is strong. May need to do some engineering.
Feck. It's going to have to wait.

That was a sweet model too. I remember the build thread.

Good luck with it. It looked incredible, I hope you can save it.

They don't make that kit anymore either.
I'm going to have to build a jig to hold it. What a PITA. It just can't sit anyway without putting stress on the joints.
It's really a clumsy design. In real life, it would never work. This is the second time it's been split at the disk - the first time the boy hit it with a volley ball. (yes, throwing it in the house...). I was able to repair it.
But now, the tabs are about gone. I may have to glue some styrene tabs in and then hope I have enough surface area to get a good bond. All the while supporting the stupid thing so it doesn't get more damaged.
The cracks in the body are a whole other issue. No idea what to do about those. The secondary hull is under a little pressure because it is stuffed full of electronics, wire and the shuttle bay itself. There's even an arboretum in there with little tiny trees.
Adding the electronics and wiring was a bit of a trick. I think the big challenge is not damaging the paint job beyond repair.
I have no time to deal with it. I think it's going into a box (which will have to be specially designed) and going into storage.
Sigh.
design was for zero G, not 1 G of the Thrakkdom.....

My Polar Lights kit has been sitting in the closet for a couple years now, probably 20% finished. I got all the good light kits for it, but stopped before doing the azteking on the hull. Now that the weathers about to turn colder, I may have to pull it out and finally work on it. You were a big reason I got the kit in the first place.

"we have the technology, we can rebuild her....."

Get the precut vinyl masking - if you still can get it.
When I built mine, I don't think they had lighting kits. We scratch built ours. Would have been easier to get a kit.
Do it!
I have an NX-01 with most of the electronics finished (a friend gave me the electronics for it) but no time to build it. The guy that made the electronics even did the rotating plasma looking thingies on the warp nacelles. Very cool looking.

Build a drydock for it.
