View Full Version : Getting prepared to bug out

Living in the tinderbox has me realizing that we need to have a plan to bug out on very short notice.

We are pulling together critical items to take with us if the fire comes here. For example, hard drives, photo albums, tax returns, insurance info, birth certs, etc. I even arranged for a local shop to take my 64 vert.

Probably have some cloths packed, camera gear, first aid kit....

We will also document our stuff for insurance.

Feck. I hope it doesn't happen.

Holy crap. Be safe mang. Videotape a quick scan of your house if that's all the time you have. Every drawer, cabinet, closet, etc. I had a partner of mine whose house burned down and the insurance co. fought over crap like a $200 Braun razor.

Grab: hard drives, thumb drives stored in weird places, CDs and DVDs, photo albums, birth certificates, passports, jewelry, safe deposit box keys, insurance policies, last years tax returns (if not already on the hard drives), guns (include permits), kids' first teeth, etc.

God bless.

Good list. That's the hard part. Figuring out what to take. My son would be hit hardest. He has every toy he's ever owned.

We started throwing some stuff together and making mental lists when the fire hit in Leander the other day.

If it had jumped 183 we would have been packing in earnest.

My rule is to only take the irreplaceable.

Pictures, videos, guns, wife's wedding dress, family items, silver, etc...

Don't forget meds (you and pets).

Of course, insurance stuff and any other deeds or titles.

Are you backed up to the woods like us? We are literally packing containers. Until it rains, this will be our reality.

No...we're across the street from the homes that back up to the ranch/trees that go the rest of the way down Leander Rd. So we have a bit of a buffer, but the way the fires have been moving...
