I think my water pump pulley is squeaking when I spray it the belt the squeak comes and goes but when I rev it up it is always there. Do you have to replace the whole water heater or could something else be causing the noise the car does not leak or overheat. it is a 01 coupe.

Thanks for any help.:)

Have you tried replacing the belt already?

:iagree:

I had to replace my belt and idler pulley to get my Squeaky to stop.

I replaced the belt and the tensioner pulley. Squeak gone 99% of the time. Next will be replace idler pulley. I can live with it but the better half hears it and then I hear it.

There are a number of sources for the squeak. If you can isolate what belt is squeaking first then you can determine what pulley or tensioner may be the culprit. If you remove the AC belt and the squeak is gone you know that it is within that system. If the sqeak remains then it is within the main drive belt system. Also, if you can sight down and see if the harmonic balancer is wobbling then that may be the source as well. Good luck.

You obviously need louder exhaust.

"Belt dressing" is old school, and really doesn't work well with serpentine belts. My experience is that the belt usually is the culprit, but the tensioner and idler pulley are a really close second. I replace them all at once.

I have a chirping squeak I haven't killed yet - and I've replaced the fixed idler, the adjustable idler, the harmonic balancer (delaminating), the power steering pump pulley (it was cracked) and the belt.

I'm running out of things to replace on that belt system - and it's in that chain because I hear the chirp whether the climate control is on or off.

Alternator... hmm... :(

I also had a squeak once in a while replaced the belt and the tensioner, the noise was still their, ended up the belt dressing was actually causing the noise, use a small wire brush on pulleys, cleaned all of them, havent heard the noise since, just letting you know about the noise i had, good luck hopefully its a simple fix

Stupid question... there are also fixed and adustable idler pulleys for the belt running between the AC compressor and the crank pulley, aye? And they're turning when the crank is turning, and a squeak that speeds up or slows down with engine speed could come from those too?

I have read in the Corvette magazine that a warped harmonic balance is common on C-5's
