Someone has a thread over there asking, "Can a feral cat be socialized?". Amazingly the responses say "rarely", "hardly ever", "it takes months if ever". What bullshit! Some said to put the kitty in a small room with a litter box for a few months. The only one who got it even close said, "Kittens: Decent chance. Adult female: Small chance. Adult male: Very very minuscle chance."

I've been rescuing feral cats for 30 years, and they make the best pets. Kittens are never a problem; they hiss at you for a few days, but then they become just playful, loving kittens. Even Puff [Daddy], my older, half-a-tail male cat decided in 2 weeks that having his ears scratched feels good! Semi-adult and adult females have never been a problem; once you get them fixed, they just hang around the house.

I've never tried to tame an adult male, but only because they're usually so beat up and mangled that they have to be put down. But peeps! Feral cats are not a special breed of cats--they're just cats! Descendants of domesticated cats actually, but that are born and raised in the wild. Why do peeps who know the least know it the loudest?

Thanks for allowing me to vent. :seeya:

My wife took one in when we were just married....The thing stunk, shitted everywhere, sprayed everywhere, and ran away, just to come back in 4 days...Those 4 days were hell with my new wife....
Solution :....After two months of that BS, I drove it out to the country, in a cardboard box, and dumped it at a farm....I didn't even stop my Blazer, I hated that thing so badly.....It was so satisfying to see the box, tumbling end over end in the rear view mirror !!!

Irony : I built my house, one mile from where I dumped the pig, two years later.....It never found me....

Answer to your question, Spence. NO !

Disclaimer : We have two barn cats that are the bestest, most loveable cats, on the face of the earth, that we adopted from the SPCA as kittens.

I can certainly understand that, but it had a lot more to do with the disposition of that cat rather than feral cats in general. I have a Bengal that my wife bought ($$$$) 12 years ago. He now stays outside because he is the loudest, wildest, nastiest, most destructive cat I've ever seen.

I have one now that only took a few days to get accustomed to the wife and I. Now she's at our feet wanting to be petted every time we go out the door. We've had her fixed and vaccinated and are in the process of getting her use to our indoor cat.
This little cat has had a ruff go of it. Not sure if she's had a stroke or injury but she walks off balance, head tilted and has a drooping lower lip. We call her Tipsy and she calls us her home.
For the record. On that other thread. I said yes, feral cats can be tamed. It just takes time, patience, and love.

One of my secretaries begged me to help catch a stray cat she had fell in love with at our shop. She swore she could rehabilitate the kitty.
I trapped the cat in the corner of our warehouse in a tool closet. Got some welders gloves and I think we grabbed each other at the same time. That SOB yowled, clawed, spat, hissed, and tried to climb my arm.
I, on the other hand, yelled, cursed, screamed like a girl, and tried to throw that devilcat the hell away from me.
Managed to get it to her car, where I tossed his ass inside. Male, grown, un-neutered and looking daggers at me.
She got him home, and after about a week or two had him calmed down and pretty much rehabilitated.

Then she had his balls cut off.
(Feck you, cat)

And today, he lives the life of a feline sultan in her mom's house.

No criticism of you at the other place was intended. Your kitty likely sustained a blow to her head, although it could have been a stroke. If she's otherwise okay, nothing you can do now. I have a female that was thrown from a car on I-55; ripped up her feet pads. She too walks kinda sideways.

we had a cat many moons ago, now we have a doggie.

so Mrs. DAB is puttering in her office, and goes to move a dulcimer from the rocking chair...and it rattles...whaa?...dulcimers don't rattle....

turns it face down, and out spills a mess (about 3 handfuls) of dry doggie food morsels...huh? mice.....little stupid mice have been stealing doggie's foods, and stashing them in the dulcimer (has 2 little holes, star shaped, where F holes on a fiddle would be) for later use....

i need a mouse catching and eating cat...stat!!

Glad you posted. Like I said, I've never tamed an adult feral male, but I figured it could be done. Unneutered, feral males are mean as hell, and they know how to fight. Once those balls are gone, they lose their badness. Sorry about your injuries.

You, sir, are in luck! I run the Mickey Mousers Club, a business that provides hungry cats to peeps with mice problems! For a measly $500/day (per cat), my mousers will eat their way through your house, including the mice! Overnight delivery, satisfaction guaranteed. BTW, where's the F*ck hole on a fiddle?

My brother and his wife adopted a cat from a local shelter that they named Circles. This cat has the worst sense of balance of any cat that I have ever seen. He obviously had something happen to him earlier in life as he was full grown when they got him. He is always falling off things. But he is the sweetest old boy you would ever want to meet.

He sounds like Ben, a big male that I had for 15 years. Ben loved to sleep on the roof of my sloped roof garage; he always chose the highest point to sleep with his legs dangling off. This is the same cat who would fall off the porch when he slept.

Most of them don't lose their wariness of potential danger. I view that as a good thing to help then take care of themselves.

I have a female cat I named "Grace" because she's so clumsy. Like your buddy, Grace liked to sleep on top of my old television, legs hanging out in the air, and she would inevitably fall off - hit the floor - and get up glaring at ME, as if it was my fault!

I guessd that's why they get so pissed about it. They lay their ears back, swish that tail, and walk away like, "Sheesh! What a feckin' dumbass!".
