Pop's is on his 3rd Accord. Buys them new, runs them for 3 or 4 years which is typically 60k, then unloads them for a new one on trade. Anyway he went to the dealer to get the car serviced yesterday and while hes waiting he walks into the showroom and checks out a Pilot. Sales guys asks him if he wants to take one for a spin so he does. Comes back and checks on his car. Service is done but they tell him he will be needing rotors and tires soon.. They offer to appraise his car for a trade in on the Pilot.. He says sure.. $17500 is what they tell him for the trade and they can do the Pilot LX for about $28,500. My dad says he'll think about it and bounces.. Comes back a later in the day with my mom to see if she likes it. She does. Problem is the LX was sold and they are all out. All the have is EX's and higher trim levels.. Dealer now says he will do an EX with cloth for the same $28,500 (out the door). Pop's says ok and to prep it and he will get a check and pick it up tomorrow.
He then calls me at work and asks me to pass by for a drink. I stop by his house on the way home to talk and discuss the deal. Seeing that I don't know dick about Honda resale or pricing i call up our resident Honda expert and have him talk to the old man. Long story short Hank can't touch the deal and told him to jump on it quick.. :yesnod:
I end up stopping by the dealer on the tail end of the transaction today just in time to hear the F&I who is one of the sons of the family that owns the dealership say "We made an error.. When we appraised your 07 with 55k on it some how there was a mix up and we had it in our system as an 10 with 15k on it..." Thats why the trade in value was so high.." My dad being perfectly ready to walk say's ok so what does that mean (playing dumb). The F&I guy says "Nothing... We'll honor the deal.. It was our error, but please bring you business back to us in the future for service etc...."
:hi:
I would hate to be the guy that screwed that one up.. :chitfan:

Don't feel too bad for the dealer. We just delivered a '08 Accord EX-L for $22,900. Can't remember the miles- I think about 65ish. Used car market is completely stoopid at the moment.

So...
what's my wifes 06 Accord EX-L v6 worth? somewhere around 30-40K miles.

I was thinking on the retail side. Easy car to sell. Deduct about $4K for trade-in value. that's up here- don't know the market in Florida.

:iagree: It's hard for someone trying to find a decent used car for a good price when they can't get a new car.

Saw a 2004 Civic 2 dr, 5spd on a local lot. Looked it over really good...new tires, very little wear, some small rust bubbles on the fenders (not uncommon for Ohio).
It didn't have a mileage listed...I pegged it for 150k....looked it up on line 317,000 miles....$3995. It didn't last a week.
