got an email from someone at CF, asking me about some punched copper work i had shown way back when over there.

try to reply to the email...bounce....no go.

of course, even if i dump all my cookies, still can't send him a PM...because they banned me...duh.

so, someone is asking a serious, intelligent question, to which i have a serious, intelligent answer, but because Pewter99 is an asshole, i can't get the poor guy the info he wants.

if anyone would care to play 'telephone', here's the Q:

Doug,
This is KWIL from the Corvetteforum.
You posted pics a while back of your copper cabinet inserts. I love the look, and I'm planning something similar. I have a few questions:

What gauge copper did you use? I have some 16 ounce left over from a project (I just finished up making a copper countertop). Too thick/thin?

What tools are needed for the embossing?

Did you trace a pattern onto the copper first?

Any tips (amount of pressure needed, what to cover the sheet with before "punching", etc.)

Did you seal the copper, if so, with what?

Surprisingly, there is not much info on DIY copper embossing to be found on Google. I really appreciate any advice you can give.

Thanks,
Kevin

send him here, and i'll answer the Q.

and since he's here, somewhere...

my answer:

thanks for the compliments.

i was banned from CF a few weeks ago for posting the following:

yep, after 12 years, and no warnings, they tossed me.

visit the above site, i think you'll like it more than CF.

to answer your Q:

don't recall what gage copper i used. i used a punch awl (round holes), and made 2 other tools out of old screwdrivers to make either straight holes or diamond shaped holes.

the pattern was copied from a display at home depot many years ago. copied to a piece of tracing paper, laid on the copper (with all 4 sides of the copper pinned down by wood screwed to an underlying piece of plywood, copper backed by about 1/2" of news print, and hammered away, one hole at a time.)

copper was sealed after punching with clear spray lacquer, about 3 coats, held up fine for about 8 years until the house was sold.
