I have a Dell Inspiron 4100 and have the battery setting here
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/JRD77VET/Triples/73%20H1D/duh/duh.jpg
I ran the laptop just on the battery and when it reached about 62% ( last time I checked ) it shut off. :confused5:
I changed the top setting 25% and the bottom setting to 7% but still had the "critical" warning.
Other settings I'm missing?
Thanks
Jeff

Battery is toast?
Battery is likely NiMH, meaning it's life will get shorter and shorter, regardless of what the computer software says. Take it to a Batteries Plus store and have its core replaced, or the battery all together.
My daughter's netbook has a Lithium Ion battery and gives goofy readings. At 80%, it said she had 105 hours of time left. At 75%, she had 5 hours left. Lithium batteries are more modern, with more longevity, and they can still report bad remaining times.

Thanks Craig  This is a co worker's battery and since his dell had "catastrophic failure" I checked it out for him.
The high percentage left but "battery level critical" confused me ( not that hard to do with some computer problems  )
I'll see what my couple month old battery does tomorrow :leaving:

Batteries Plus has replacement batteries for most popular notebooks, including Dell. Typically at 50% of the cost of new from the manufacturer. :yesnod:

I have the laptop for either working on the cycles in the basement, working on the cub cadets in the shed or to view the pictures we take on vacation in Canada. Any of those three have 120VAC
Even if I'm on the boat trying to find an unsecured wireless signal, I have an inverter :D

My Macbook Pro sometimes gets out of whack with the battery indicator. There is a procedure that involves resetting the power management software.
I've had to do this a couple of times. This usually fixes the problem for a couple of years or so. You might look into this for the Dell.
