View Full Version : LOL - Not everything from California translates well to Texas

I was in Fort Worth this morning and decided since I had an early lunch slot available, I'd run by Chef's new auxiliary kitchen, (http://www.thevettebarn.com/forums/off-topic/20175-there-now-officially-no-reason-me-move-back-la.html) and get me a Double Double burger. This brand-new, just-opened-last-week In-N-Out is located just a few blocks from the Will Rogers Equestrian Center and the rodeo grounds for the Fort Worth Stock Show.

I'm in line at the drive-thru and three cars in front of me is a good ol' Texas ranch pickup. Very typical white Dual-Cab F350, custom box, long-bed, dually with a bull bar/brush guard on the front with a winch that sticks out 2 feet beyond the bumper. This is NOT a unique vehicle around here as thousands are used to haul livestock trailers all over the state.

But it will not fit through the nifty drive through lane designed for Cali commuter cars, Vespas and Prii. First, it was too long to make the circle drive and had to drive over the landscaping, then it was too wide to make the turn to the Pay-Here window and crunched the faux rock work on the support column for the canopy, then Tex proceeded to rub a gash down the side of the bed as he just crunched on ahead to get his cheeseburger, tearing the facing off the column as he went.

Double Double meal deal -- $6.50
Repairing your pickup's custom storage bed -- $3,500
Fixing the damage to the In-N-Out Drive through -- $7,500
Remembering Texas-based Whataburger is built for trucks -- Priceless

Had to have cattle horns on the hood and a gunrack. Plus a 2 3/4 ball to pull his trailerhome.

Craziness!

How long did you wait in line? How much time was added by the Texas boy's accident? He did stop to check out the damage after his tummy was filled, yes?

It was just a shade after 11 when I went through so there really wasn't much of a line - maybe a dozen cars. He didn't slow things down much, but there were bunches of traffic cops around - they were talking to the driver and the store manager as I left, and rerouting traffic through the nearly empty Wendy's parking lot next door. Opps.

They have traffic control working for blocks around it though, looks like they are set up for a hundred cars to go through at any one time. Good gig for the off-duty FWPD if they don't mind standing around in 104° sun.

It's the first In-N-Out I've seen with a dining room. In California I always sat outside or got it to go.

You just have to wonder what he was thinking to just keep on driving through! :willy:

The In and Out in Frisco must have a much different customer demographic. It's still nuts up there, and the place has been open for months!!!

I couldn't find stats on total length, but both cars had a 124" wheelbase. Don't know about the Pontiac, but the Mercury had the turning radius of a freight train.:D

It's the first In-N-Out I've seen with a dining room. In California I always sat outside or got it to go.

They have several with dining rooms now. This one is identical to the one near my friends house in Van Nuys. The one I used to go to all the time was on Ventura Blvd. in Tarzana...very much the old school In-N-Out...no tables or benches. Two drive thru lanes and a walkup order window.

Can't tell you how many Double-Doubles my buddies and I powered down standing up in the parking lot. Good times. :yesnod:

I take it you liked the food? :D

Pffft...four was for starters. Sometimes we'd do 3 x 3's and don't forget Animal Style fries.

I worked out a LOT more back then. :leaving:

I'm a long time fan. Every time I get back to LA I find a means to drive through an In-N-Out. I used to have the "Urge" bumper sticker on my truck. It was as good as the ones out there.
