Hey ya'll,
I've been thinking about the Indy 500 for after the Barn Raising, and was curious how many if any of ya'll would be interested in going.
It's a 4 hour drive, how receptive would ya'll would be for staying at the Bowling Green hotel one more night and riding a bus to and from the Indy 500 for the day. This would save on an increased rate for a local Indianapolis Hotel, as well as parking for everybody, and serve as a DD for anybody who wants to drink.
While I understand that doesn't make sense for our Chicago Crew, it might be easier for us Southerners who'll be heading out that following Monday.
On the flip side, maybe if we shoot for a local hotel we can get a reasonable group rate now. Also if we get a solid head count we can probably get group tickets to the race.
Ok the floor is yours, lets hear your suggestions.

If all of my plans work out, Karen and I will be towing my Corvette up to Bowling Green. Which is why i'm very hesitant to attempt to drive into Indianapolis during the 500 weekend.

Oh gotcha...thanks. So that is the Sunday after BR (last day of that weekend)? Looks like it would be fun but the 5 hour drive sounds a little brutal before flying home. But I'll talk to Mark about it.

If all goes well, I will be doing the same with Craigs vette. I too would be wondering how and where I could park the rig during indy

Yeah, so this race is Sunday during the day. There is usually Nascar race AFTER the Indy 500 somewhere else.
We went to the Indy 500 on my last trip to Bowling Green, it's a pretty cool experience.
That's why I was thinking a party bus would be viable. You could sleep on the bus on the way back.

Sounds like a lot of fun, but no way I could commit right now with work.

I really have a hard time even comprehending the athletic ability it takes to compete in both races in the same day. I have a hard enough time drinking beer over the course of the two races.

One of the things I would love to do is go to the Indy 500. I've been to the track and the museum and ridden around in the van tour but seeing a race is on my list.
Count me in.

Don't they usually drop the flag about 11 local? Need to leave stupid early in the morning.

Would be a lot of fun to go see it.
I do like pie though.

:iagree: Last year we got up early drove half way up stopped for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel, and finished the drive. After the race we drove down to Louisville for the night. I'm some what hoping we can get a group big enough that a small bus would make sense, so having to get up early and worry about anything more than where to sit and go back to sleep is the biggest problem of the day.

It's less than a 4hr drive from BG, and getting around Indy on raceday is usually not a problem. On that Sun morning, the right lane (only) of the 465 bypass will be backed up for miles until the speedway exit, but the other 3 lanes are usually sparsely populated and moving at normal pace.
I go right past there on my way home from BG, and I never had any issues due to race traffic on Sunday morning.
I may be interested in attending the race and a Sun night hotel, but not on a bus headed back to BG. At Indy, I'm halfway home.

I would be interested. Its been quite a few years since I have been to one.
I am almost home at that point though. So would drive myself. If we can get group tickets I would go for that.

I think a couple of drivers have done it. Not anymore that I am aware of.
I'm with you though about it being hard enough just to drink beers through both races.
I like the bus idea.

John Andretti, Robby Gordon, and Stewart are the only ones that come to mind in the recent years.
Indy starts at noon now (used to start at 11:00) so it is pretty much impossible to run them both.

The Indy race was pretty cool, but definitely very hard to watch from the infield. So we moved into the grandstands, what a freakin awesome race.
My sister works at a Cracker Barrel here in Indiana.

:iagree:3.5 hours max
Oops that's right 4 Hours not 5. :yesnod:
It only takes me about 5:15 to get to BG from Chicago. It's 225 miles from BG to Indy. At 75 mph that's only 3 hours. You need a faster car!

275 miles, this says 4 hours and 3 minutes. :D I'm sure I could speed there in a Vette, this year I'm going to be in my Chevy 2500.
