Wonder if this will impact us who are already retired, from reading it, it does not seem to. I was impacted with the last change of retirement system back in December, 1980. I am not getting my 50 % of my base pay, but the 50% of my last top 3 yrs averaged out and that is what I am gettnig 50% of as my military retirement, Thank God for Tir-Care.

... and yet we won't even consider making cuts in welfare and food stamps.

as with me, those who give the most, who pay the ultimate price are the ones who get poked with the short end of the stick.

The article says it won't impact those already retired. I don't see how it could anyway as those already retired never made a cash contribution.
I think this will make recruiting and retention very difficult. The offset for lower pay than the private sector was always the retirement system particularly the ability to start drawing retirement at an early age. To make this work it would seem to me you would have to raise pay rates considerably.

I think, if this does happen, it will be bankrupt as SS and medi-cade.

Depending on how it is implemented, the talk I am hearing from many of my friends that are still active is not much short of a mass exodus.
When I got out, the retirement was the one thing that really made it a difficult choice to go into the civilian side.

at this point, the only thing keeping me in is the medical benefits.
I doubt I'll see a retirement at this rate.

I may not have expressed my point as well as I should have. I did not mean to refer to those already on active duty who have already become career designated. By retention I was referring to keeping people in past a first enlistment in the future. I think many will join for the training, college benefit programs, etc.. But I thiink recruiting and retaining career types in the future will be difficult with this sort of retirement plan unless pay were to increase substantially.

To make matters worse, they are also considering a tiered approach to benefits as well as pay, to include medical, GI Bill, Thirft Savings, etc.
Just another enlisted Force-shaping tool ... I do see the fiscal advantage of the plan, but as was noted in the article, where does that leave the future leadership pool?? and the folks active duty who enlisted for the retirement and benefits??

Politicians hate the military. That is until they see fit for us go off to some third world shithole and try to kick someones ass while they direct the war instead of letting the Generals do it. Even then they probably hate us. If you make it 20 in the military, you deserve every penny!
