Last evening about dusk, I spotted a big doe in the front yard about 150' from me. When she saw me she perked up her ears, stared at me for a minute, then began to walk away. I whistled at her, not loud, sort of a "tweet-tweet". She immediately stopped and looked at me. I kept whistling, but when I quit she started walking again. Long story short, we repeated this many times. I got tired of whistling, and she disappeared in the woods. Just an oddity, or are they that curious?

You don't see any deer where you live? I see herds of them, 15-20 at a time. And when it's deer season, even more run through the front yard. We are absolutely up to our eyeballs with them. I see that whitetails have made it all the way to the mid-upper East Coast in droves.

They are curious animals. I have been using a chainsaw and stopped to take a break only to see several does watching me.
They may be union supervisors.

I'll have to try the whistling thing. At dusk and dawn the deer come right up to the house to dine on the flowers/shrubs or just to walk aimlessly through the neighborhood.

next you'll be training her to back up to a stump
If one does that, they have smelled people before and not been shot at, or they are young.
They are generally cautious to new smells/sights, IMHO.
