rank a special enough place in your life that you keep their number stored in your phone so that you can call them.
:yesnod:
Others are special enough that you keep their numbers stored in your phone so that you know not to answer the phone when they call you.

I manage rental properties.
Felons generally have a hard time finding anyone who will approve their rental applications, so they wind up calling every single ad week after week until they find someone who will not do a criminal background check.
They rarely, if ever, remember who they called in the past (or, they just don't care). I usually type their names in the local public records search engines as I take a call; it's a waste of my time (and theirs) if there is an insurmountable problem with their criminal history.
I've started saving their numbers so that I can recognize them when they call.
I have names like Melissa- Arsonist, Jamal - Murderer in my contacts list.
Sometimes I'll answer their calls just to feck with them, if I'm having a slow day. "Melissa! Are you still on probation for arson? I haven't heard from you in a while."

I wish I had that luxury. Even making fun of the felons doesn't make my number stick in their heads enough for them to remember not to call me. :)

I compulsively delete numbers off my phone, and dont answer numbers i dont recognize. If it's important they leave a voicemail.

I wish I could do that.
In my business, nearly all of the incoming calls are from numbers I don't recognize, because they've usually never called before.

Police whistle! (I've got one).
