View Full Version : Tennis Elbow - IN BOTH ELBOWS!

July was rough and I don't see August being much better.

I've got the pain in my neck managed thru the magic of drugs and am going in for yet another procedure later this month.

However, the meds do NOTHING for my tennis elbows! I had cortisone injections done last week and felt great for a couple of days... Who the heck gets it in both elbows, at 43? The pain is pretty severe. I picked up a cup last week and it about put me on the floor. I've spend a couple of days resting my arms, it's harder than it sounds and I'm right back to where I was before I tried resting them.

I'm starting to wonder if I've got something else going on. I googled arthritis, but there's no swelling at all. MS, totally wrong. Lupus, I don't have a rash or fever and this seems to be muscular and not the actual elbow joint.

Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anybody had any suggestions. If not, well, welcome to my pity party.:shots::hi:

I had it once and was prescribed a band you can wrap around the upper part of your forearm that limits the muscle activity that causes the pain.

It worked If I recall correctly.

I had "tennis elbow" numerous times in the right elbow. After 6-8 cortisone shots I ended up having surgery to remove all of the scar tissue and fuse 2 tendons together. It wasn't much fun. Hope yours isn't as severe.

I have one of those, it works great but only when I wear it. I got it last night and it seems to give me 99.9999% relief in the arm I'm wearing it on, but when I switch arms, so does the pain. If I wear it will it fix the problem?

It just seems like I shouldn't be having this much trouble.

I used to get the elbow, knee, ankle etc. I changed my diet to no sugar, or white flour products, and it takes a while, but I haven't had any problems in a couple of years! Try herbals like glucosamine rather than toxic meds. I take alphalfa, and garlic everyday (both blood detoxifiers). And try to work through the pain, the little bursae sacs are inflamed and using it speeds up the healing. :D

BTW.....booze makes it flare up as well.

LOL I was kidding the other day when I said I started drinking earlier in the day, I very rarely drink. Couple times of year at most.

Sugar is my weakness though!

I did (both arms) after completing my second 90 day round of P90x. Doc said it was the curls where you twisted out a bit. I rested it for 90 days and iced it down 2x a day for 15-20 mins. I also took a motrin in the evening. I'm back to normal now. I'm 39. Also, check amazon for braces...they make ones that isolate that muscle so its not used. I know how you feel though - it sucked not being to pick up or hold something of weight without pain.

In the past I had issues with my right elbow brought on by lousy form playing tennis. Ice, rest, and one of the bands helped a lot. BUT...

Recently I had issues with my left elbow and discovered that my position while sleeping was putting pressure on it. After modifying that, it's much better.

So, how did you sleep and how do you sleep now?

:

I had been sleeping on my left side with my left arm outstretched above my head... sort had the weight of my head on my arm. I think there was enough stress on my elbow in that position that over time it caused the pain.

Now I make sure I have my arm out of that position and it has helped.

:iagree: Gluten free diet. We've had several friends who fought muscle and joint pain that found it helped.

Just a thought, but you could buy one for the other arm as well. Maybe wear them both at the same time as a fashion statement.

My understanding is it helps fix the problem as well as providing relief.

Michelle, I had tennis elbow from hand splitting 4 cords of wood a year, for years and years.

Doc said, “you have tennis elbow”.

But I don’t play tennis Doc!

Doc said “ show me how you split wood by hand with a maul”

I went through the motion.

Doc said “ah ha!”

Something you are doing is aggravating your elbow joints. You need to find out what that is and stop to let your elbows heal.

Do you sleep with your hands over your head?

Instead of the cumbersome tennis elbow straps, I started using a self adhesive wrap like this:

http://www.usmedpatientcare.com/images/D/ZGAE03_EasyTearCohesvBdg3in.gif

USMed Medical Equipment and Supplies :: Wound & Skin Care :: ReliaMed(r) Latex-Free Easy-Tear Cohesive Bandage (http://www.usmedpatientcare.com/ReliaMed-r-Latex-Free-Easy-Tear-Cohesive-Bandage.html)

I would start the wrap 2 finger widths down from the inside crease in your elbow. Wrap 3 or 4 wraps deep, snug but not tight. You will know you own comfort level. At the time, I had to wear long sleeved shirts and ties to work so it never showed, even if I rolled up my sleeve past my forearm.

I stopped splitting wood by hand and bought a gas wood splitter.

Pain went away after a few months of not aggravating the issue.

Oh, also.

Not having proper support when you type on your computer will aggravate your condition.

Be sure your arms have something to lay on clear up to your elbows when typing.

Thanks Nate. Between you and Bucky, I'm thinking of firing my doctor, except he's real cute and super funny. Oh well, you guys are handsome and funnier to boot. Since I am taking your suggestions seriously, I'll be bugging you guys when I have questions in these areas. Sure hope you don;t mind.
