I've always liked the various movies and series but one question I've always had is why do all the ships have to have a "saucer" section?
It's a flying saucer. :leaving:

I read that at the time, they wanted to break out of the cigar shaped rocket design off all the more cheesy sci fi from before. They sort of combined flying saucer with cigar shape and BAM Enterprise.

Is coffee being served within said section?
Every coffee cup needs a saucer.

Later they retconned the shape as being the best design for warp-field efficiency.

Which is stupid seeing as if that were the case, everyone would be doing it.

Must be a virgin vag, then... if the giant penis is boldly going "where no man has gone before."

There is no drag in the vacuum of space. Hell, a cube would be the perfect vehicle, hence the Borg ship concept.

How can you have drag in a vacuum?
Edit: OD bmti.

Then, in true Trek lore fashion, my response to you is, "Don't play the wounded Klingon for me, Duras. You don't do it very well."
And shit. :D
Do you know who said that? What episode? What Stardate?
Nah, we cool. Just feckin' witcha.

From what I've read, the basic design stems from the Daedalus class ships.
They explain Roddenberry's design impetus in the book Star Trek Creator: The Authorized Biography of Gene Roddenberry by David Alexander. Just sayin'.

A couple of my faves. Kirk loses his memory and becomes an American Indian. or the episode where he finds the warring stoneage tribes of Americans (with a constitution) and Communists.

Oh dear God! TOS was soooo cheesy! I liked it when I was growing up, but man, watch it now and it's more a comedy than sci-fi.

Well, no - not really. Not in the Universe of Cochrane warp physics.
The saucer-and-nacelle concept is the most-efficient design for warp field generation and manipulation. The Borg just brute-force their way around the 'Verse.
