Ok, you Merc guys how much is a 93 600sec AMG worth. It's got 50K miles and runs great. V12. That's all I know. Silver, navy blue hides, good rubber, AMG model??

:iagree: 10-12K if it is clean and has some decent records. Post pics of the owner crying when they find out that is all it is worth.

Bullshit. MB didnt start to slip in the quality department until the late 90's, early 2000's.

I respectfully beg to differ, please note my particular doppleganger (1994)

That's what I thought, in the 10K range. The OPTIMISTIC owner is asking 16K$, hahahaha!

Interesting read indeed. So much for those years of MB's. They'll be giving them away soon. A well deserved :slap: to MB.

Go look at it. Pop the hood and show him the broken wire insulation all over. Tell him 7500 cash and then go spend $4k replacing the harness.

Should be worth a solid 10K when you are done. :leaving:

One of my favorite Benz's too. Unfortunately, the car the OP is talking about is the next bodystyle.

It was a good car, but sure wouldn't win any beauty contests. The V12 would never have fit under the W126's sloping hood.

Don't see many around. If I ever found a decent one, I'd have to consider it. Bad wiring and all.

My cousin in Germany bought one of the last 420SEC's to roll down the line. Benz was giving huge discounts to employees right before the next bodystyle came out. He still has the car- doubt it has 10K on the odo.

I'd be game for a clean 300CE or a E320 coupe if I came across the right car for the right money. Not hard to find a mint, rust-free example in the Northwest.

Which reminds me- I'm gonna be in the market again soon. Son finally got his own place (good), left with the F150 (:sadangel:). Daughter's in Eastern Oregon with the wife's Expedition. Probably won't see either one again until September. Crap- we're "truckless" for the first time in decades. :ulan:

Anyone know a good car salesman?

Wish I did. I'm shopping around for a new Escalade. '07 or later. My '05 is due for replacement.

Be careful w/ an '07. Many had issues with wind noise around the A-pillar, driver's side.

I don't get the love for a Benz...

I wouldn't give ya 2 nickles and a bucket of warm ice for one.

You've been talking to me wife, haven't you?

I'm not generically in love with Benzes. A few, though, could get me interested.

Like: a '77 through '85 240D with manual everything. Slow, noisy, but I don't think anyone really knows the outside edge of the life expectancy of these cars.

Along with the already-mentioned coupe, a wagon in the same bodystyle ('86-95). Bonus points if it was a '86-'87 300TD Turbo-Diesel. Like the 240D, but with comfort... and power.

That's about the short list. Not only does Benz not make those cars anymore, they don't make anything remotely like them in terms of durability and reliability (my own opinion).

Wifey would flat kill me if I brought any one of them home. You can tell, though, that functions real high on my priority list. Prestige... not so much.

incorrect.

QFT. '91 was really their quality high-water mark. Things went downhill from there with each new model/bodystyle that got introduced.

MB and BMW owners should write Lexus a "Thank you" note.

Lexus is the only reason the Germans have improved their quality.

I agree with you on the 77-85 240D. My FIL and MIL each had one. His was a slow, lumbering old hunk of iron that never let him down. It was a former taxi in Europe.

My wife had an 87 300TD. Sorry piece of junk. Tranmission rebuild at 70K, engine rebuild at 77K. Power door locks (old-fashion vacuum operated)went out: $600. Rear differential: $1200. It drove like a vault down the road, but it was a money pit.

That's fact. And don't think for a second that the lesson was lost on Hyundai when they rolled out the Genesis and Equus line.
