Two men arrested for shooting woman with flare gun

Baton Rouge?BAKER, LA (WAFB) - Two men have been arrested for allegedly shooting a woman with a flare gun loaded with nails while trying to rob her Thursday morning.
According to the Baker Police Department, it happened in the parking lot of the Walmart on Plank Road in Baker around 9:45 a.m.
Bake Police Chief Mike Knapps said an elderly woman was walking home in the alleyway between the store and some apartments.
Police say Jasper Bivens, 17, and Patrick Piper, 26, walked up to her, shot her in the leg with a flare gun and then tried to steal her purse. She was also carrying some grocery bags.
Even though they tried to mug her with a flare gun, instead of a regular gun, Knaps said their charges will be severe.
The woman did not give them her purse, so they didn't get away with anything.
Fortunately, she's doing absolutely fine.
Bivens and Piper were arrested a short time later.
Police say Bivens told them the flare gun had also been loaded with nails.
Knaps added his department dealt with this duo for a disturbance at the Family Manner Apartments in Baker.
Both men are charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
Piper is already on federal probation for another crime and has been also charged with convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
