View Full Version : Wife Wants to Visit San Francisco for her Birthday (yes, she's straight!)

Simply put, she loves to travel and this is the best B-Day gift I can think of for her (of courrse I'd go, too).

The only criteria we have a tthe monent is that we don't want to visit theme parks, gang infested areas of the 'hood, or state government buildings (she doesn't want me creating a scene by going off on a libtard).

The round trip air fair and hotel (02 SEP arrival in th eveing and 05 SEP departure) really isn't that expensive and is averaging about $1300.00 from what I've seen via price line so far. I'm also willing to spend a bit more $$$ for something nice in the Hotel department. We'd like to stay in a nice hotel that easily puts the Holiday Inn to shame. She likes to do a lot of shopping and we both like visiting museums and decent restaurants that don't require full financial disclosures along with credit checcks before ordering.

What does VBOT suggest?

It's her B-day gift and she reaally wants to visit so i'll give her what she wants. If not I'm subject to UCMJ acction (not the military kind but the Uniform Code of Marital Justice).

One of the better vacations we took was to the Bay Area - we rented a convertible and drove through Napa and Sonoma. Great few days.

Don't go in a store with a rainbow flag. It's not a crayon factory.

Go to San Diego instead. Oh, and stay out of the Tenderloin District.

I hear it's a really pretty part of the country if you can get over the socialist laws, and weird people.

My office was asking if I'd mind traveling, my only preference was not to go to California.

Poor DJ never gonna live that one down.

I enjoyed visiting the Golden Gate bridge (smaller than what I thought) and the wharf. :yesnod:

Live it down? Shit, I don't care. I'm secure enough to laugh at my own mistakes and have soem fun with them here on a forum. it's not like any of you can come do irreparable (sp?) harm to me. The story behind it was tue, but the part about calling the grip a handle was a f-up on my part. I guess it was my turn to Joebuck something this time.

SF is a beautiful city to visit; one of my favorites though I'd certainly never live there. Check out the redwoods in Muir Woods. It's just a few minutes north of the Golden Gate.

Check the weather. July and August are pretty chilly there. You will want a jacket in the evening.

:iagree:

spend a day sight seeing in SF and then go up to wine country and enjoy the rest of your time......

Muir Woods is worth a stop too!

San Francisco is a great place to visit.
When you check in to your hotel, ask the desk clerk what areas to avoid. They'll be happy to tell you. It's in their best interest to keep their guests safe. The last time my wife and I were there (probably 20 years ago), the guy had photocopies of a map and outlined the good areas and the risky areas.

As far as hotels go, I have no experience with these, but they got high marks from the crowd at CF when the subject came up a while back.
Grand Hyatt (http://grandsanfrancisco.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/)
The Argonaut (http://www.argonauthotel.com/index.html)
The Mosser (http://www.themosser.com/index.html)

Good luck and take lots of pics.

I let my wife choose where she waanted to staay and whaat she waanted to do after I did some research to show her. I'm not sure what she chose, but whatever it is I will go along with it and remaain silent if I don't like it and enjoy the living mess out of it if I do like it. After all, this trip is her B-Day present.

Was there in '87 for the famous 50th anniv of the Bridge, and the walk....

I recommend more than 3 days....it takes a WEEK....

Napa valley for sure, doubt you could walk the docks from BART to Presidio....like I did then....you need climb some of them hills, and ride the trolley.....and stand on top of the infamous LOMBARD st.....

Telegraph hill, some monument hill (forget the name)....

and go to CHINA TOWN, and there is a famous restaurant there, you walk out the front and look into the TENTH floor of a office building....I shit you not....TENTH floor, some chick typing away...today on a computer for sure....

if the flattened out SF, the land area would be about 50x what is is....
