I have a two-year-old Stihl trimmer. Decent trimmer, but the line keeps breaking off inside the head. I have to shut it down, take the head apart, and pull some more line out. Since it's a two-line trimmer, I waste line, and it's damned inconvenient. Plus my fence is made of something called Tensar, which is a black wonder-plastic with fiberglass strands imbedded, and it cuts the line easily, even though the line is .095. I saw this on TV:

It supposedly has the line attached to pivots that prevents the line from breaking. Just another gimmick? Or do you think it would work?

I'm skeptical.

My dad bought one, when i was just visiting i noticed he bought this head/string. He says it works great. There is a place around the backyard with chain link and that would destroy the traditional edger string.

I haven't used it myself though.

edit--- im not sure its the same brand, looks the same but the name doesn't sound familiar

https://pivotrim.com/Most of those weigh more than the unit can handle. The wires might or might not break, but the drive cable probably will.

It looks smaller (and therefore lighter?) than the factory head. The lines aren't wires, just plastic line. Alter your thinking?

I'm skeptical.

Yeah, me too. But I thought it might be worth it to not have to disassemble the head when the line breaks off.

Problem is I'm the messican around my yard. But I get to sleep with the lady of the house....:leaving:

If it works, I'll buy one. My trimmer is shaft drive, so the weight shouldn't be an issue.

Alter your thinking?I haven't used that type, but I have replaced several drive cables from using similar styles. I never had one last long enough to tell you if it was better than the factory setup. Lighter might work, heavier will not.

My neighbor has one of those that doesn't feed the line and he spends a lot of time replacing the little strings.

I just use a stock Honda four-cycle weed eater now. No problems in the seven or eight years I have had it.

Four-cycle?
