We got over 100 posts in last week's puzzle, a record. Keep up the good work, peeps! We may have disagreements over an answer or two; I try to keep it fair, but remember: Tricky clues are legit (true facts, but the reader may interpret it differently), but misleading clues are not legit (untrue facts that cause the reader to form a wrong conclusion).

Anyway, grab a beer, and get started! No Googling!

1. Here are 4 matchsticks:

http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww22/lspencer534/9003824-close-up-of-four-matches-in-box.jpg

You can use these matchsticks to form a square, and at each of the vertices you will have a right angle (90 degree angle). Using these 4 matchsticks, make a shape that has not 4 but 16 right angles. [The matchsticks are of equal length.]

2. The English professor had given some students failing grades. As a way to get back at the professor, they started messing with his car. Each night they removed the first and last letters from the model name on his car. Every time they did this, the remaining letters still spelled an English word, including the last letter that was left. What is the make and model of his car? [In case this isn't clear, let's say the professor drove a Chevy Blazer. Remove the "B" and the "r", and the word "laze" remains. That's as far as you can go with a Blazer, but you get the idea.]

3. On the container of a common personal care product is a word that can double the sales of that product. What is the product, and what is the word?

4. What are 5 ways a baseball player can get on first base without hitting the ball?

5. Let's say you want to put Winter tires on your car. You want to mark the tires already on the car so that next Spring when you put them back on they will be in the same location from where they came--left front tire on the left front of the car, right front tire on the right front, and so on. What is the smallest number of letters you can use to guarantee that all four of them will be in the correct location with no ambuigity or chance of error?

6. In what City was this photograph taken?

#5 - Five letters. RF for right front, LR for left rear, a single R will suffice for right rear, the fourth tire needs no marking, it goes on left front by process of elimination.

Wasn't what I had in mind, but help me make sure your way will work. I was gonna use this:

Left front: LF
Right front: F
Left rear: L
Right rear: No letters

So 2 letters.

Every time you mark a letter on the tire it counts as 1, it doesn't matter if the letters are the same.
r=1
rr=2
l=1
lr=2

Maybe in Canada but in the USA you're only using 2 letters.

zero letters needed: dismount summer tires, duct tape to hood/fenders for added weight (visibility is overrated).

or,

zero letters needed: pull car onto lawn, jack up on cinder blocks, dismount summer tires and lay on dirt/grass, with nose of car pointing to front door, mount winter tires, reverse process come spring...providing you can find the tires in the weeds...

2 letters. I didn't say you couldn't use the same letters twice. It's a trick question: Factually accurate, but readers may have different interpretations.

Yes, it was, if you did it right. A buddy had one as a rental while his car was in the shop, and we used to set the parking brake to lock the rear wheels, then since it was front wheel drive, drag the rear tires down the street until they smoked and had flat spots on them.:D

Correct! So what are the other 4 ways?

Base on balls
Hit by pitch
Catcher interference
Pinch runner

DAB beat me but those are the answer. I don't believe you can balk a batter to first unless its the 4th ball in the count and then its scored as a BB.

Right. The other ways are:

Fielder's choice
Dropped third strike
Overturned out call

Gotta hit the ball for two of those. And then everybody forgets the other way - Know what it is?

Double play?
Reach on an error?
