effing construction!... I drive, 3 miles a day.... 3 whole miles... and sure enough WHAP!
Anyone have good luck with the DIY kits? Ive also seen those commercials on tv where they are using some sort of resin and injection/pressure system... Do these work? Id prefer to not have to change out the whole windshield and lose that factory seal but i have to act fast before the heat and potholes expand it to the point that they can't use that method.
Anyone have any luck with either method?

Happened to me a few months ago while I was on the way home from the bodyshop. Called my insurance company and rock chips in the windshield are classified as no fault in my state (or by my ins co). I had it repaired, for free, 2 hours later.

really?... i may look into that then... For a possible repair i didn't even consider bringing in my insurance...
I'll look into this, Safelite does a mobile service near my place i just checked... Maybe i can just have them come out and do it instead of screwing with it... I just want to attack it fast before it spreads

The resin injection works, and costs less than $100.00...Do it before it spreads. If you have full glass coverage, they will pay for the injection.

For real. Same day. I wouldn't bother with the home kit if they'll do it for free. Mobile service is even better.

Replaced the windshield in my wife's '05 Acura RSX back in '06 due to a big crack, then a year later some guy ran her off the road into a telephone pole (pretty significant front-end damage on that one...) so she's on her third windshield. It doesn't leak or anything, it's not that big of a deal really.

Did your rates go up?
Nope. It's a not at fault incident.

If it is on your Vette be very carefull. 2 things. One is the door trim pieces are not made anymore so they have to come second hand if they crack them. 2nd is leaks. I had to reseal the windshield and trim myself.

Make sure they use the suction machine. If they don't use it, it will not be as good of a repair.

Yup, started out dead center bottom (bottom right of pic) and migrated up to the passenger side up to the visor, thankfully it's on the passenger side or it would've bothered me to the point of replacing ($370 for a HUD) but since it isn't I live with it for now, one of these days I will. I got it on Deerfoot Trail, 100 km/h speed limit and it's notorious for killing windshields, I'd say 75% of windshields have cracks or chips on them in this city.

happened to me last year...my windshield took several hits and finally it cracked...I have a customer that works for an auto glass company and he replaced it for the cost of the windshield. (cheaper than my $500 deductible)
I gave him extra for his time....no leaks or any issues...he did a good job!!

In Florida...windshield is replaced or repaired at the insurance companies cost with zero deductible.
It's the law.

well, some things in NJ suck donkey balls...with some of the highest insurance premiums anywhere...you'd have to be a real jackass to make a claim on your insurance in NJ for something as silly as a cracked windshield...

Sorry for the lack of updates... The guy comes out to my place Tomorrow to fix it, according to my insurance it is covered and the mobile service is not covered but that is only $10.
So my insurance is covering it without affecting my rates
luckily it didn't spread and hopefully it holds, their reviews are great so im hopeful
Edit- Oh, and since it happened where they are expanding the roadway, i guess the city/state has set money aside for damages to paint/windshields/radiators and rims according to my insurance agent.

Yeah, so $10 so i don't have to sit at a shop is way worth it. Because its so hot they have to clean it, let it dry and then let the glass cool down...
i guess they will come here, and put up a canopy over the truck and get to it...
way cool that its being done and i don't have to change the whole piece of glass and lose that factory seal. I really didn't want to rip into my new truck just yet... first new car ive ever purchased so i tend to baby it :D

I've had a few windshields replaced a couple fixed. I thought they were going to fix the '01 Suburban windshield from a small chip but they said it was too close to "the critical area"
It always happens at the most inconvient time too. I was 5 miles from home where I was going to pick up Mary and then go to visit my mom 200 miles away
I got to look at this in my '90 Suburban the entire trip down and back :cuss:

Call your insurance agent. Some states (like Kentucky) consider glass mandatory safety equipment and your policy will cover the cost of the repair at no cost to you and no deductible.
They can't legally raise your rates in KY for glass claims, either. I had the windshield replaced on Theresa's Odyssey last year after it experienced a crack from a rock she struck while driving along the insterstate.

We can get our vehicle's reflectors, headlight lenses and parking lamp lenses replaced for free in KY, too! :)
