View Full Version : Bought my first vinyl in years...
It was an impulse buy... Was spending the day in Asheville and came across an actual record store--yes, a store with stacks and rows of traditional vinyl LPs  I decided to buy my first vinyl in years, Nirvana's "Live at Reading" album. Man, I forgot how GOOD vinyl sounds! Don't get me wrong, I love CDs and the digital age, but there is some kind of extra warmth that comes through vinyl
Now I've dug out my old collection of 45s. Got a ton from the early 80s when I was a kid and have a bunch from the 60s when my parents collected them. The Beatles, The Animals, Bread, Mungo Jerry  Great way to spend a Sunday morning
Great store, they have records last time I was there.

I found an unopened one of this at Play It Again Sam's in Macon, GA.

I like to look for the half-speed mastered LP's.
They're like finding gold. :yesnod:
I have two antique jukeboxes that play 45's. You can still buy new 45 records, and new 33's as well.

Well, I realize in Canada you guys are still rockin' the 8-tracks...but with us being in the digital age here, it's nice sometimes to go retro :rofl:

That is EXACTLY the one I'd like to have. How much did you pay, and what kind of condition is it in? Is it still R-12?

Remember when quadrophonic (discrete) LPs came out in the early to mid 70's? I have the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon and a few others in quad. Only problem is I don't have the hardware setup anymore. Required a special pickup cartridge that goes up to 50kHz that picked up the extra tracks on the vinyl and a decoder.

I haven't bought a vinyl LP since the 80's.

A few years ago I was going to buy my first record player. I then decided after seeing all the gear I had already amassed, there is no way in hell I would be able to afford it.

Yeh vinyl is like AM stereo, remember THAT?? the left channel had all the hi freq pops and clicks, the right had all the lo freq pops and clicks....
play a record about 5 times even with the finest elliptical stylus of the times, Ortofon, Shure, who EVER, and listen close on a GOOD system, not some Klipsch junk or worse yet AR.....
all you all gotta know there was only ONE name in audio worth a flying flock....
McIntosh.....
and my Brother In Law was head of music division of Library of Congress.....
he knew music pretty good, and swore that my McIntosh was the Best most accurate sound he ever heard.....and they had ALL the hot brands....JBL, Altec, Klipsch, AR, you name it.....
and a recording/sound PRESERVATION studio in the L/C building within walking distance of Cap Hill.....
and when I bought CD's as just plain simpler to handle, cars, home, no hassles, and sounded BETTER.....he immediately agreed....
he died in '85 cigs and cancer related crap....
