is a helluva drug.

:rasta:

I put my back out a copuple of weeks ago helping someone who stopped to help me push start my 66, get his own car loose which was stuck in the soft shoulder of the road.

I never really gave it a changce to heal. Now its
just really friggin hurting to the point it takes my breath away. So I tapped into my kidney stone stash for a little relief.

How sweet it is. Finally no mor e pain for a fe hours.

:)

Thanks man. The nerve from a ten year old herniated disk was rubbed severely raw from the attempt to push his car out of th edirt. These things take weeks to fully hea.l and thsats if you take it easy, whcih I haven't been doing. I am now, fo shnizz.l;e

Funny you should ask. I had called for roadside assitance which as a tow truck. I was waiting for them when this Good Samariatan showed up. We got my car running and when the tow truck got there I gave him my tow truck and he pulle d him out. And so I put my back out for nothing. Stupid.

What strength do you have? 5, 7.5, 10? Lower strength usually lasts 4-6 hours, higher can last 6-8 hours...

Depending on the severity of the injury/level of pain, though, the effects can be much shorter-lived...

It is a very intense pain. I put up with it for half of yesterday and most of today. I just couldn't take it any more.

It's the 7.5 mg hydrocodone. I may take one more before I go to bed.

Yeah, the 7.5s are what I routinely prescribe for more complex extractions, root canals, etc. They work pretty well and you can safely take one every 6-8 hours. The thing you have to be careful with is the Tylenol (the 7.5s have 500mg I believe)--the Tylenol is what will fry your liver and what actually kills you if you OD on Vicodin or Percocet, etc. For that reason, I've taken more to prescribing Vicoprofen which is hydrocodone @7.5mg with ibuprofen instead of Tylenol... Now you know, and knowing is half the battle :D

Does the potency decrease with age? I have had these sitting in my gun safe since 2006. I think I got them when I had problems with my back at that time. It's probably a full bottle. I really don't like taking that stuff. Only when I have to. :sadangel:

Yes, they do expire... I don't honestly know all the pharmacology half-lives and such, but 5 year old Vikes are likely not gonna do too much for you :slap:

I also found meprozine, promethazine, and mobic. Are any of these pain killers?

Also did I understand you to say that 5 year old hydrocodone / APAP is not going to be effective?

'Cause it took a good hour for the effects to kick in, but it did at least take the edge off the pain for several hours.

I do have a "in case of emergency" kidney stone kit my urologist prescribed for me to see if I can avoid the $9000 ER visit for my next stone. I have just filled it in the last 3 months or so. It has some fresh hydrocodone, but to tell you the truth I was saving that for my next stone episode.

5 year old hydrocodone will be effective, but just not nearly as potent--if it were 1-2 years old, maybe, but at 5 years it's just not going to have the same kick. Not to say it won't have some kick, just not as much.

Promethazine is an anti-nausea med; Mobic is an NSAID for arthritis, etc...so yes, it'll help with pain and inflammation; Meprozine is a narcotic pain reliever. I'd definitely be careful about mixing too many of these meds in your system at once... Your liver and kidneys may not like you for it...

See, that 's the reason I really don't like taking this stuff. Only when I have to, as I said earlier. I may take one more Hydrocodone when I go to bed later this evening. Maybe tomorrow I will try a Mobic.

The pain I am feeling, IMHO and from my 10 years of experience with my ruptured discs (3 of them) in contact with the nerve roots, is from inflammation of the ruptured disc and post-surgical scar tissue, probably from compression of the discs when I was trying to help push that truck out of the sand.

This has happened before. The nerve gets rubbed raw, and it takes a while for the inflammation to go down to stop contact with the nerve root and allow it to heal. After the contact stops, it takes a good couple of weeks or more for the pain to completely go away.

Of all of them, Mobic would be your best bet because it is an anti-inflammatory  Back pain sucks--ask any dentist... Hope you feel better

Oh, yeah... I bet you guys DO have problems with back pain, working bent over all day.

thanks for the advice.

I'll check to see if the Mobic was prescribed the same day by the same doctor. i believe they were, and for the same problem (back problems). If so, I will take a Mobic with the Hydrocodone to help reduce contact with the nerve.
