for viruses. My wife answered and they told her they would like to check our computer for viruses. The caller had a foreign accent. He asked her to get on the computer. She hung up.
I imagine they would have asked to her to go to a website and they would be able to get in to our computer.
What do you think?
Someone randomly calls you and wants access to you computer?? There's nothing to think about. But, I'm sure there are some stupid people out there that will fall for it.

My guess is they have you go to a website and download their "anti-virus" program. This program is probably a key logger. Once installed, it emails an account your log on a set interval. This would include your passwords, CC#'s, bank account info, etc... if you ever type them.

I think that was very kind of the gentleman to offer to check your computer. And how rude of your wife to hang up on him! If I'm so fortunate to have him calll me, I will certainly let him have access. People nowadays...Jeesh!

Funny you say that, I linked him to your profile here. He said he will contact you if he can't get in to check for viruses on your computer.

Yep I fecked up..... forgot the minute I got to work and had to go to the ER for one of the many codes and drownings that came through. Please accept my sincere apologies and next time I will whip out my iphone and lay it next to the persons chest so I can do compressions and get on the forum to warn you of something. ;)

I've had two calls recently from ''Windows security department' saying they've noticed my browser keeps failing and i may have a virus ----- Indian accent --please turn on your computer ..
I said ''what. what are you talkin about?'' They repeat the b/s and i said 'Mmmm i still don't understand'' ..I then get transferred to a guy and start over again ..Then i said ''But i don't have a computer' ..
After a pause he said he could help me if i was thinking of getting one ....

The IRS scam is running around again, too. Got one this morning on my netzero account.
It's a phony e-mail which claims to come from the IRS and which lures the victims into the scam by telling them they are due a tax refund.
Looks real. If you didn't know better, you'd swear up and down it was legit. You can read more about it below and shit...
