replacement knife arrived, pics in post 35
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I bought this 112 buck knife in november of '78 before my first deer hunting trip. The sheath finally gave up the ghost :sadangel:
I've been thru hell and high water with that knife. Dressing deer, cutting steaks ( as a bachelor, my wife makes me use a steak knife :lol: ) and self protection a few times ( never actually "used" :angel: )
I was in the shed last week working on the cub cadet, turned while underneath and the sheath tore.
I looked over at ebay and found the same vintage knife over there. I just won this one ( $21.05 ) a few minutes ago.
Old faithful will be back on my belt again in a week or so :hurray: I'll put the "new" vintage knife in a drawer for safe keeping.
Thanks
I inherited my late FIL's 110 Buck Knife but it doesn't have the sheath. Need to find a vintage one for it.
I can see why people love it. Weather was freakin amazing coming from the hot, humid, thunderstorm/tornado weather of St Louis
I think Joebuck will have an incentive to run faster than I :lol:
My late grandparents used to live in Monterey. Very nice area from what I remember.
This knife was made of Damascus steel by my good friend Daniel Winkler. His wife Karen Shook made the sheath. They are famous for their primitive knives, but Daniel also makes knives for certain Naval Special Warfare Units.
I know a couple of guys on a gun forum that make "twisted steel" knives. I watched one of them at his forge and I was amazed at what he did with that steel. He also showed me some knives made of steel cable, forged together and folded several times, amazing pattern in the steel.
Love that Damascus steel patterning. :yesnod:
Isn't the folded steel blade the same thing used in the original Samarai swords?
Yeah, they'd take slabs of iron and forge them together, enlongate them on the anvil then cut and fold it over. Then forge it together again a number of times. Might be 40 or 50 folds in one blade. :yesnod:
Cool Buck!
Amazing how something so inexpensive can mean so much to some people. I have a Buck 112 that i have had since i was a boyscout, I probably don't carry it as much as i should though.
This was my first "good" knife. I purchased it at Edelman's in Montgomeryville,PA ( they closed probably 15 years ago ) I've carried this knife so long it probably has half a million miles on it. :lol:
'78, about the time I bought my 110 IIRC.
Still have it, case is well worn but still functional.
I think this one is slightly newer than my 1978 original as the sheath has rivets.
