SPRINGFIELD, LA (WAFB) - Two men are accused of punching a 74-year-old man before taking his money and several bags of ice near a Louisiana state park Monday afternoon.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said Cody Powell, 18, and Glenn Castle, 23, were arrested on robbery charges. They are both from Springfield.
When questioned about the crime, both men confessed.
Detectives said they were called out to a reported robbery on Patterson Road in Springfield.
They learned an elderly man who sells ice to people visiting the Tickfaw State Park was beaten and robbed.
Investigators said the suspects punched the victim in the head and arm.
They then stole about $120 in cash and several bags of ice.
The robbers jumped into a truck and drove off.
The man and his family were able to give deputies a good description of the white Dodge extra-cab pickup and one was later found at a home.
The LPSO said the two suspects were found inside hiding in a closet.
A search of the home turned up $35 in what was believed to be stolen cash and 13 doses of Clonazepam. Two bags of ice were found in a nearby ditch.
Clonazepam is sometimes used to treat seizures and panic disorders.
Both Powell and Castle were booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center for second-degree robbery.
Castle was also charged with possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance.
Bond for Powell was set at $35,000, while Castle's was set at $45,000 with a hold for violating his parole.
Both men were still in the parish prison as of Tuesday morning.
