Recently traded in my wifes 2004 Mazda 6 for a new one. We had such good luck with the first 110k trouble free miles other than gas/oil...kinda made the decision easy.

So far she loves the car. Lots of power (well for her) at 274hp. Everything was easy to setup electronics wise.

A few gripes though:

1) The ipod connector isn't the usb just the jack plug in. As such, the display on the radio doesn't list track info and you can't control the ipod from the radio. Minor annoyance - but damn, I can't understand why they go cheap. Can't be more than a few more bucks to put a usb in. The bluetooth audio connection does however send over that stuff. But 90% of my music is on my ipod.

2) seats have memory buttons - but it doesn't appear that mirror settings are retained - so even though the seat goes back so I don't crush a testicle (wifes 5' 1", I'm 6ft) - I have to readjust them everytime I take it.

3) This one really pissed me off... There are settings (like on newer vettes) where you can config when the car locks, whether the signals blink three times with just a push, and a few other items. OF course you can't set them yourself anymore but have to take the car to the dealer. Cost? $50 flippin bucks to have them turn the 3 blinks or whatever feature you want turned on or off. Of course I didn't pay it - told them salesperson to tell service dept to do it - I ain't paying for something I should be able to do on my own.

All in all great car if anyone was thinking of one. Lease deals are incredible right now. Lease rate was .9%.

Search the Mazda forums I bet there's a way to do it through the ODBII adapter. Of course you'll have to have the software to interface to your laptop but there is a lot of free stuff out there that seems to work great on my 2007 Chevy pickup. :yesnod:
It's amazing how the manufacturers cheap out of shet that would make their vehicles much more user friendly. My pickup came with a DIC but it had a very limiting interface that basically wouldn't let me monitor anything. The solution was a $47.00 dash part that added 4 extra push buttons to control the DIC. It came as standard equipment on models with leather interior but not on cloth interior models. The computer and DIC were the same on either model, just a simple piece of plastic with 4 push buttons.
I ordered the part from GM Parts direct and it was $47.00 delivered. It greatly enhanced my car just by having that. Later on I found software on the web that allows me to control and view every computer setting in the vehicle, if something doesn't look right or feel right while driving I just hook up my laptop and take a look! :yesnod:

Man good idea... I didn't think about getting the connector for myself and getting a hacked copy of their service software. Thanks!!!

I doubt I'll change anything else. There were a couple of other options on when the auto wipers come on and stuff like that. I guess it was more the point of Mazda screwing customers and forcing (most...not me :) ) into paying the BS fee for something that takes all up of 5 mins to do.

When my wife bought her '09 Mazda 6 her first service they asked her how she wanted the horns/lights setup and they did it for her. Might depend on where you bought it whether you get charged or not. She didn't.
