Ordered the wheels.

Just tracked them and a sig is required.

No one will be home to sign.

Have appointment set for Saturday to get them put on.

How should I handle this to ensure that i get them Friday aside from playing hookie?:waiting:

Won't be in a position to call UPS for a couple hours.

I think you can call them and have them hold them at their facility and go get 'em.

How far is the UPS distributor from you? You can call them and tell them to leave the package at the UPS facility for customer pick up.

:iagree:

You can also do this online. Track the shipment and click on "Change Delivery."

This is true. An even easier option.

Can I change it to another residence?

My dad lives around the corner(same last name).

Same UPS driver and truck even.

You can, but only AFTER they've made one attempt to deliver them to the shipping address. Union rules. They don't care if nobody will be home on the delivery date either.

No, the shipping address can only be changed by the shipper, but Dad could be at your house to sign for them.

Around here it doesn't matter if a signature is required. The UPS drivers just run up to the front door, ring the bell, and throw the package on the porch in one fluid motion. They are back in the truck and driving away before you can even turn the doorknob.

Not gonna happen.. Guess I need to push back my appointment Saturday to put the wheels on and go pick them up at the distribution center.

I'll call UPS later and see what else they suggest.

Thanks.

I was thinking of tapping a signed letter to the door saying to leave em. I doubt he wants to load and unload 100lbs of wheels more than he has to.

You might call the wheel shipper, explain the situation & see if they're willing to call UPS & change the delivery address to your dads place. Some might not want to do this due to the fact that the delivery address won't match the billing address. Never hurts to ask them though.

They do the same "drop & run" around here normally, but not when I got my wheels. The regular driver (who knows me) came to the door for me to sign before even thinking about unloading the wheels. :yesnod:

It's UPS fer crissakes. You're asking for trouble by trying to screw with delivery addresses. Just bank on the usual ineptness and expect them on your doorstep when you get home.

Hell, they left my wheels on the front porch.

I've done this successfully on many occasions. Reference the tracking number and authorize receipt of the package, if it's your regular driver, you should be good.

Although he is retired he does have a life.

I make it a point to not ask people to do stuff for me that I wouldn't want to do for them. Getting them dropped at his house versus mine isn't an inconvenience. Sitting at my house all day when he could be at hiss own place is IMO.

I'm sure if I asked him too he would do it but I know he really wouldn't want to.

Not a bad idea. Print the receipt for thethe wheels, the tracking info, and sign a letter for him.

I might try that.

I don't think you need to include a copy of the receipt. (you don't want nosy folks finding out what's in the box).

Tracking info and a letter stating My attached signature authorizes and acknowledges delivery of ups delivery, tracking # xxx.

That should do it.

my UPS driver will leave it on the door even if it says "signature required"

A man with lesser morals could take advantage of that.

:iagree: That's why I always tell them UPS mofo's to leave large packages on our front porch from the get-go.

I called UPS 2 days before a delivery & was told that only applies after they've attempted to deliver once. They were required to let the driver attempt one delivery first. They would not hold it at the local facility for me to pick up on the delivery date, until after the driver returned with it that evening. As the delivery date was on a Friday & I was headed out of town, I ended up having to wait until Monday to get my package.

FedEx doesn't have this problem, which is one of the reasons I always use them instead. :yesnod:

I have done it over the web several times and they held it at the local facility.

You cannot pick up packages at our hub. Matter of fact, you can't even call the local hub. And we have a fairly large distribution center. I worked there.

The local facility for me is near Dulles airport. It is only a couple miles from my work, which is why I choose to pick it up rather than having it delivered. It is especially convenient on something that requires a signature.

I don't know what a "hub" is, but the Dulles facility accommodates both sending and receiving on site.
