iTunes 10.3 now available, brings some iCloud features
Did Monday's Apple announcement get you excited about iCloud? Well, then you should run off and download the latest version of iTunes — because it will bring you some of those shiny new iCloud features.
With iTunes 10.3 you'll get to take advantage of the iTunes in the Cloud feature in particular. This means that you'll be able to automatically download music purchased through iTunes to all of your iOS devices.
Other iCloud features, such as iTunes Match — a service which gives you streamable 256 kbps AAC DRM-free versions of your tunes if Apple can match them to the over 18 million songs in the iTunes Store — sadly won't be available until the fall though.
You can get iTunes 10.3 via the iTunes Update feature or through Apple's website right now.
Note: Before you go download the application, it is worth calling attention to the requirements listed for iTunes in the Cloud:
Automatic downloads and downloading of purchase history available in beta now and require iOS 4.3.3 on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM model), iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2, or a Mac or PC with iTunes 10.3.
Notice that the CDMA iPhone model — the Verizon version — is left off this list. It runs iOS 4.2.8 instead of 4.3.3. Does this mean that Verizon iPhone owners are stuck waiting until the next iOS release before they can try iTunes in the cloud?
iOS 5 already jailbroken--months before its release
Apple just barely finished announcing iOS 5, the next major version of its mobile operating system, and some sneaky folks have already managed to jailbreak it.
Jailbreaking — as the process of unlocking iOS devices so that they can run unauthorized software is called — is of course frowned upon by Apple. Naturally this means that the company tries to make it as difficult as possible for iOS hackers — or "jailbreakers" — to play around with its software.
There are several popular jailbreaking communities though, and those communities frequently release software which anyone with basic computer skills can use to unlock his or her device. And a member of one such community has announced via Twitter that iOS 5 has already been jailbroken:
This initial jailbreak process is rather limited though — it requires that the iOS device be connected to a computer each time it is booted up — but considering that iOS 5 was just announced on Monday and won't even be publicly released until the fall, I'd say that the jailbreakers are already ahead of the game.

:cool1: I'll have to check out iCloud on iTunes. I only have a handful of songs that I've purchased from Apple. I'm not going to pay any monthly fee to share other songs.
Most likely, I'll have all my tunes on my cell phone, which I usually have with me, rather than my iPod or PC.
Trying to keep such a tight grip on iOS will be Apple's downfall, much like they did in the "PC wars". :yesnod:
Because MS lets people mess with their OS so much.

While it does open the door for Android and others - will people deal with the same level of frustration on cellphones and tablets as they do on computers?
The nice thing about Apple stuff is it just works and the main reason it does is because the hardware and software all come from the same place. And the 3rd party apps are all tested by Apple before release.
It isn't a perfect system but it does grant a lot of uptime.

Windows is installed on how many different PC configurations/manufacturers?
Same question for OS X?
Thus my point as history has proven correct and appears to be repeating itself with Andriod vs iOS. :yesnod:
Apple comes out with some good stuff then shoots themselves in the foot with their business practices.
Apple is the largest tech company on the planet. With $40 billion in CASH in the bank.
Please, shoot me in that foot.
Android Marketplace has become a breading ground for malware. The App Store has much tighter controls leading to minimal issues.
End users do not care about the tech issues you mention. They care that it is simple, that it works and that their bank accounts don't get hacked.
Apple has become hugely successful (and growing rapidly) despite all the geeks of the world crying how horrible they are.
I still chuckle at all the people that mocked the iPhone and then the iPad (comparing it to a slab of stone).
Those were two huge failures.

I agree in 2 years RIM will have the same market share as Nokia. Contract cycles will be the only thing keeping them afloat for a while.
The big thing people playing the "this is PC vs Mac all over again" miss is the same thing they missed the first time:
When Verizon sells an EVO, a little money goes to HTC and a little money goes to Google.
When they sell an iPhone - ALL the money goes to Cupertino. Savings in Hardware can go to R&D software, evergreen legacy apps continue to add value to the device but mean more profit for the whole entity even though their R&D costs are long since retired. There is a synergy between the two halves that makes the entire deal better.
That's why Apple has out lasted dozens, maybe hundreds of PC manufacturers from IBM to Kaypro to Compaq and Gateway. Android is the MS to Apple iOS but we'll see how that works for all involved.

Here's my theory on what killed Apple in the PC days. Its all about the software and who it was marketed for.
Apple's killer app direction was desktop publishing and it worked - everybody who needed to do graphics needed an Apple and a postscript RIP/printer. They owned the graphics market.
The PC's killer app was business suites - Lotus to begin with and then Word - Office -Excel. There were a whole lot more offices than graphic designers.
Throw in the traditional Apple premium price, corporate BS and bickering, a soda pop guy as tech company CEO, and the fact that anybody who could solder a motherboard had an "IBM Compatible PC" for sale, the battle was over before it started. No wonder the stock was $14.
This time it isn't so cut and dried - Apple's target is people who use telephones and email or watch movies and TV. Its a mass market out there. They proved with the iPod they could build a device that based on the user experience could do the same things everybody else's did but better and easier and own the market.

With MS products/office suites available on the Apple products, is it just me or are there more and more Apples showing up in traditionally PC markets.

Yesterday Jobs said that the overall PC market declined 1% last year while Apple's Mac sales increased 28%.

What do they use for breading? Regular bread crumbs, crushed up crackers, do they use an egg wash before breading? I find that coating the item with flour, then egg wash, then breading causes the breading to stick better. :yesnod:
